Buffering Issues!

Buffering Issues!

The Stream app buffers approx 7-8 times every 30 minutes, while I watch live tv on my tablet, over our Xfinity WiFi. I've talked to a Level 3 tech, who had no idea how to help me! I've uninstalled/reinstalled the app, did a factory reset on my tablet, reinstalled the app, and even changed my password. Help!!

Two important questions:

  1. Have you run a speed test to ensure you have good network connectivity/speeds while streaming? If you are having Internet slowness, we can send someone to your home to get you hooked up properly.
  2. Does this buffering happen with all content (live, on demand, and Cloud DVR - if applicable)?

Re: Buffering Issues!

Same problem on Kindle Fire HDX. My connection is super. Could this be browser related? Tech I talked to suggested changing from Chrome to Edge. Edge was OK for a while, now drops video. See attachments for err. msg.

If you are using the Kindle Fire HDX tablet, you should use the native application available here:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DUQOSRQ

The browser should not impact things - we only use the browser during the sign-in process (where you enter your username/password).

System Requirements for the Amazon app are here:

Re: Buffering Issues!

Hi Dan! Thanks for your reply. Yes, I have run a speed test, and Comcast's Tier 3 support techs (for the app) have also run a test. All is fine with the speed. This buffering only happens while attempting to watch live TV. On Demand movies/programs work fine. This past weekend, the buffering was so frequent, that I had to just turn it off. Also, I'm also noticing other apps not loading pictures - like the eBay or Poshmark apps. Tired of rebooting these devices every hour!

Re: Buffering Issues!

Also, I uninstalled the Stream App, then went to the Xfinity website, to try and watch from there (by clicking on the TV icon, upper right side), but all that does, is takes me to a page wanting me to download the Stream App.

Re: Buffering Issues!

That's the app I'm using. Problem started after March 31 Fire OS update 5.3.3.0.

Re: Buffering Issues!

I just tried uninstalling the app from my Fire, deleting it from the Amazon Cloud, then downloading it again. Same problem - constant buffering, every 5-8 seconds.

Re: Buffering Issues!

Hi CC Dan!

Ok, so I had a very knowledgeable tech here at the house. He said that the small town I live in, is serviced via microwave, not fiber optics (hope I'm saying that right), and only getting about 70% of the speed, whereas, the closest city, about 20 miles away, gets 100% of the speed. He replaced some outdoor lines which were kind of messy, checked to make sure our line was secure, etc. I guess it all comes down to where we live. Either that, or Xfinity Stream does not like Samsung Galaxy Tab S2! My S6 Edge streams live tv perfectly!

Re: Buffering Issues!

Yes, still slow buffering at home on Kindle Fire 8.9 HDX to the point of unwatchable. Usually very slow on Windows 10 pc also, and clearing the browser cache doesn't work. I discovered something interesting while out of town; no problem with streaming when not on Comcast!

Re: Buffering Issues!

I was having issues with shows buffering every 10 seconds or so on my ipad.  Here’s what I did that has worked so far.  Go to Settings, General, TV, Playback Quality.  Change playback quality from Best Available to Good....no more buffering.

I had hard booted my ipad, deleted the app and reinstalled, chatted with Comcast help, resigned in to my acct....everything that I could think of.  Hoping that this is the fix!

Re: Buffering Issues!

I’m a recent member with Xfinity and I’m having the SAME issues. Two techs even came over and tried to repair and told me it would be better. It has not. I gave it some time thinking maybe it’ll get better as I let it run and it STILL isn’t streaming smoothly. I only have two consoles connected to the WiFi. My phone isn’t even connected. The only console I use is my PS4 to stream tv.

Wth is going on!

I’m not pleased with the service, is this really worth 39.99/month?

I had better service with my old place and I was using my landlord’s WiFi and I had better service. I was living in a basement then...I had better service.

I’m in a studio apartment and my router and modem is right across the PS4 and I’m still getting buffering issues.

I can’t stand this anymore.

Re: Buffering Issues!

Hello @smeltzerdan, thanks for reaching out about this buffering concern! I can definitely see how this could be frustrating and I would be more than happy to further look into this for you. To confirm, are you experiencing this through your cable box and TV, as well as the Xfinity Stream App on any Mobile devices?

Re: Buffering Issues!

I am very fulstrated with my Xfinity streaming service.  I have 4 roku devices throughout my home.  I am having problems with all of them all at once.  I have restarted my netgear router.  I have restarted my Linksys wifi router.  I have updated all software on the rokus.  I have restarted and reset the rokus.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Beta app more than once.  I have ran the xfinity speedtest multiple times yielding various results.  Usually around 150, which is half of the advertised speed of 300, but it should still be good enough to stream without interuptions.  TV is basically unwatchable.  Buffering occurs every few minutes.  I don't understand.  Worked fine for months and all of a sudden this???

there is a hard limit of 5 simultaneous streams that you may be bumping up against. did you change the gateway/modem? when you try to stream from a desk/laptop or a smart phone/tablet does it play normally? the goal is to determine where the problem is (account/equipment/home wifi ability, etc) and assist in correcting the problem.
