The problem, as far as I've been able to figure out is that the browser gets stuck waiting for a reply from http://analytics.xcal.tv/player and it never gets one.

I've had such severe problems with TNT shows the last couple days I've been going right to the TNT website to watch shows like The Last Ship and Major Crimes. So my best advise to you and everyone else who's having this problem is to go right to the networks own website and watch from there; in the case of TNT it's www.tntdrama.com.

Re: Ad Issue during Video Playback on http://xfinitytv.comcast.net/

Running Windows 7, issue happens at all hours of the evening, have tried with Firefox and Chrome...

1) Trying to watch 1st episode of latest season of Royal Pains - video will not play after 1st set of ads - screen just goes blank

2) Trying to watch 1st episode of latest season of Major Crimes, was able to watch first few minutes up to first set of ads then ads keep repeating but next segment never goes on

3) Trying to watch 3rd episode of The Whispers - can only watch one minute then it tells me I need a Hulu plus subscription. Watched first two episodes with no problem.

Please help I am really frustrated!

Re: Ad Issue during Video Playback on http://xfinitytv.comcast.net/

Hi Rockgrl:

For some reason the streaming service has been very problematic the last week and I've been following my own advice and going directly to TNT and ABC's website as I'm a fan of Major Crimes and The Whispers as well.

I've been having problems not just with ad issues but for the first time in two years I've been having a slew of 900|bla bla bla errors which I have to refresh half a dozen times to be able to continue. I've been told by the Comcast people (and there is a whole separate thread on 900 errors) that these 900 errors are "network anomaly's" and could be a problem on the customer side either with their computer, router, modem or wiring or it could be on the Comcast side so essentially they're saying it could be a hardware problem anywhere along the way, big help that is.

Since the official Comcast people are more or less mia here in the forums and they have stated in previous messages that these forums are more of a user to user support area than any means of official Comcast support if you want official help you'll have to try either the support chat or call for voice support. If you read this thread back far enough you'll see that people who've gone that route have a very low success rate.

As far as you getting a message that you need Hulu plus, you can try and logout and log back in and usually that will fix the problem. If it doesn't you can always try and call the Comcast application department at 877-599-1845; they've sometimes been able to help people with problems like that.

Hi Norm! Thank you so much for your reply. Glad to hear I'm not the only one having issues. Thanks for your suggestions, I will try them out.

P.S. What do you think of The Whispers? I'm a big Ray Bradbury - Illustrated Man fan and it's great watching it come to life!

Re: Ad Issue during Video Playback on http://xfinitytv.comcast.net/

Hey Rockgrl:

I really like the Whispers, I wasn't aware of the Ray Bradbury connection and in truth I was interested as soon as I heard "executive producer Steven Spielberg"; I'm a sucker for series like this as I love scientific mystery / supernatural mystery type series. I really hope it gets picked up for a second season because there have been a number of series in the last few years that never made it for a 2nd season and the season ended on a cliffhanger. And the mystery was left unsolved and unrevealed, something that really annoys me; like The Event, Flashforward, The Invasion, Threshold and Terra Nova.

Apparently the series was delayed from 2014 and the options on the actors expires soon and the network has to decide quick if there's going to be another season; also apparently the series star Lily Rabe is not too keen to return: http://deadline.com/2015/06/whispers-renewal-season-2-cast-options-abc-1201452254/

Re: "Perception" video bugged

Reading this thread it seems that this issue had been happening for a long time. For me, it's happened intermitenly for a long time but for the last month or so it's every video on TNT. Seems to be isolated to TNT playback- Bones for sure (I watch videos for muliple networks - NBC, CBS, WE, TNT, FOX).

Plays ok to the first block of ads.  Plays all the ads but then won't continue playback.  If I refresh, it plays the same block of ads and then playback starts up but repeats the last 2 minutes or so of the first segment. Again, plays the ads and then gets stuck at the same place. I have Win 7 Ultimate PC w/ lots of memory. I typically use Firefox to watch the videos - current version 38.0.5. Tried it using IE 11 and it's working ok using IE.

Re: "Perception" video bugged

PS - Haven't made it through the episode yet and it's doing the same thing in IE 11 as it was in Firefox 38.0.5 only this time, it's later in the video.  Guessing it's on the 3rd or 4th ad break.

Re: "Perception" video bugged

Joe,

I've skimmed through about 10 pages of customer complaints similar to mine from the past 3-or-so years. It does not look like you've actually solved this common problem...not even once! If you are getting PAID for this service you don't provide...well played!!  All the same, I was watching:

a) Dark Matter, episode one: http://xfinitytv.comcast.net/watch/Dark-Matter/5667288826065517112/462435395589/Episode-One/videos

b) I have NO IDEA which ad was supposed to play at the end of the first segment; the screen freezes with a blank small ad box to the right and a blank large ad video box to the left with a "Your video will resume shortly." message below the small ad box.  The Xfinity logo/home page button in the upper left and the Syfy logo/site button in the lower left are the only clickable links on the page.

c) As mentioned previously, this happens at the end of the first segment.

d) Windows 7 Home Premium

e) I am using, and will continue to use, Firefox 38.0.5

f) Call me a glutton for punishment, but I tried getting past the first segment of episode 1 of Dark Matter between 5:30 PM EST and 9 PM EST on June 28, 2015.

So there you have it, Comcast Joe. Is this an ad-related post or not? Do I have to go through the trouble of finding and/or creating a thread for which this is more suited?  Say, instead of deleting this post, as you've warned at the top of this page,  you could use this as an oportunity to direct people to some usefull information?

Thanks,

Has this issue been resloved?

I was watching Last Ship and it continues to  crashes durring comercials. All of the comercials. I have all ways had this problem when watching shows on TNT. I feel like I'm being set up to watch the comercials over and over but I don't even see the whole comercial. I have refreshed, closed and open browser, tried on different computers and locations. All on comcast internet.

Re: Ad Issue during Video Playback on http://xfinitytv.comcast.net/

Watching Xfinity TV is problamatic, if you switch tabs while an add is playing, then almost everytime a block of add finishes playing the video has to be resfreshed, causing the pain of viewing the adds over again and again.

Then often when not switching tabs the adds cause the video to crash.

Re: "Perception" video bugged

I have an issue with Xfinity not playing my shows to conclusion.  I get a grey box with an ! in the middle of it.

I came here to see if I could fine a fix for it.

I came across your response to the complaint about the ads Jo.  Your answer was ridiculous.  Yes we understand that ads need to play.  However these are EXCESSIVE. There is no way a program will play 8 mins of ads in a row. Which is what we are experianceing. 4 ads per break is exceptable, however 8 ads are not.

I did not find a fix for this problem I am having, also nearly every show I try to watch on Xfinity online always dumps me back at the beginning of the show and i have to watch that same series of commercials all over again when i go back to the place i was SUPPOSE  to be before I got dumped back the beginning.  RIDICULOUS.

Re: Ad Issue during Video Playback on http://xfinitytv.comcast.net/

This is happening to me and if I cant resolve it I may cancel my cable.

I have windows 8.1, Firefox, Bravo is the biggest problem (everything I tried to watch recently)- Real Housewives of New York,Real Housewives of Orange County, Today: E- Botched (episodes 8, 9 and 10 at least time window: 5-6:30pm est) it is always the first group of ads after the first section of programing. They wont load. It is just the blank ad screen that says "your video will resume shortly." I can't watch past the first section (because the ads wont load) so I dont know if later sections would also have similar problems.

I'm very upset that I am paying for access to content that I am unable to watch. I am not trying to avoid the ads. I am only interested in watching my programming online (not on a TV) but I always pay for access to content (dont torrent). If Xfinity cant provide reliable access then I will find a different provider that can (maybe HBOgo combined with Netflix or something).

Please let me know if there are any settings etc that I may need to change on my computer. I have tried everything I can think of but maybe I forgot something...Hopefully...

Comcast does not care. Look how long this blog has gone on - 3 1/2 years! The early years were filled with promises of "IT releases" that would fix everything". Nothing has been released, nothing has been fixed.

The early years were filled with visits by Comcast representatives reassuring us that they were aware of this issue, they cared and they were working on a fix. How often has that happened lately?

Love the "fill out the answers to our ten questions so that we can help you ploy". Look at all the answers - basically every show, every operating system, every search engine. Stop this exercise in futility. Nothing is ever done with this information - ever. It is a Comcast issue and they refuse to own it. All it does when you post is generate email for everyone who has ever visited this blog.

Yes, I watch TV online - rarely on the TV itself. NormAtHome is right - to watch a show go directly to the network and view it - do not use Comcast. Drop Comcast service - love to but the spouse still watches everything on the set - computers are scary. Everything seems to work if directly on the TV or through a DVR recording.

Stop wasting your time with this blog. Nothing is ever going to change.

Commercials freeze, restart, or take an excessive period of time to get through due to freezing and skipping.  It consistantly happens on nearly any show I watch.  The specific commercial is not consistent.  It has happened while watching Game of Thrones, Rookie Blue, Graceland, and multiple other shows.  I am usually watching in the 7-10 EST range.  One day it will be fine and then another I can't even finish 10 minutes of a show.  I've tried clearing browsing data, cookies, etc and it has no effect.

Odd Mom Out and just about every other show.

Happens all day.

Happens on Chrome and Firefox.

Happens on Windows 8.1 and Windows 7.

Plays the first set of commercials, first section of show. Goes to play another round of commercials and halts on a black screen.

Refreshing page sends you BACK to the first set of commercials, the first section of show, rinse repeat.

Any shows on USA are effectively unwatchable for me. I have tried to watch Suits and Mr.Robot mulitple times today and cannot make it past the first commercial break. The screen goes black or it skips back to the begining of the episode. If I refresh the web page or log out of Xfinity or restart the computer it's the same deal (and I have to watch the same ads before the show even starts again).

All of the other shows from different stations are fine. I have had this problem to varing degrees from time to time, but now I'm a week behind on my shows.

correction - it is the first ad point.

or another idea is to allow your users to skip a small amount of ads per week so that they can watch a show all the way through if an issue like this happens.

Consistently happens - usually more than halfway through the show. This time was Hannibal, Season 3, Episode 9. Mac OS X (Yosemite). Monday, August 3, 9 pm.

Had to reload the entire episode after the commercial just hung with a blank screen.  This has happened every time I watch anything On Demand on my computer.  It is just the first time I am reporting it, out of sheer frustration.

It started at 5 PM and I can't believe that I've been switching between episodes to try to get this to work for 2 hours.  (I'm also working on a DIY project)

I'm using Safari on a Mac 10.10.4

The last ad was Capitol One Venture

Re: "Perception" video bugged

I tried to Watch Mr. Robot on USA and i just gave up because the ads were so long and it kept on crashing. Remind me again why I am paying 200 bucks per month for this crappy service? this is a joke, I am going to call customer service asap and request a refund, cancellation, or something because this feature is basically useless. Thanks for nothing Joe, your help in this thread is basically to do nothing. Awful customer service. No wonder why netflix and hulu are going to take over. the cable company is absolute garbage.

Re: "Perception" video bugged

THis is happening with dance moms on lifetime- Abby Vs Kira, at first set commercial, at fourth ad, to go to the shpw around 11:40 minutes into the show. Using Chrome and Safari, each browser, exact same issue. Having issues since 12:45pm, now it is 12:55pm.

It feels like 20 mins of ads because I keep trying to reload.

Re: "Perception" video bugged

Issue since 2012 at least. And here I thought I was paying for something.

Will be considering other providers post haste.

Enjoy being 'Comcast' quality.

Re: "Perception" video bugged

a) What is the Asset Name, Season number/Episode number and please provide the URL/link of the video: Cold Justice, Season 3, Episode 17: http://xfinitytv.comcast.net/watch/Cold-Justice/8256599854124086112/495000131790/Off-the-Beaten-Path...

b) Name of the ad that is disrupting playback or the last ad that played: Belvita

c) During what set of commercial was the issue happening? (example: "The video does not resume after the second set of commercials): Initial ad before the show starts, not skippable. A still image comes on, and I can click on it to open a new ad window, but it never plays, even when I reclick it to start or refresh the page. Always the same ad, always no way past the first image.

d) What Operating System you are using? (Mac 10.6, Windows 8, Windows 7, etc.): Mac 10.10.4

e) What Web Browsers are you using? (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Firefox, etc.): Safari 8.0.7

f) What time of day did this occur? (example: "Issue happened when I tried watching video at 3:30 PM EST) This may seem like an odd request but ads can rotate throughout the day. This means that a video may not work at 10:00 AM but will work at 3:00 PM.: 10:20 p.m. Pacific Time on a Wednesday

Re: Ad Issue during Video Playback on http://xfinitytv.comcast.net/

Shocking: the link to report issues DOESN'T WORK!

I have noticed that some shows are fine ("Playing House" worked, no problem) and others are a nightmare ("Project Runway" crashes at least 3 times each viewing once you get past the at least 20 commercial per break. Let's add in the couple of commercials that pop up the volume to a painful level.)

It's gotten worse, not better. Can we stop even pretending that Xfinity is trying to fit it?

Yep, me too project runway on Chrome. Multiple ads cause the problem  (I keep restarting the browser.) Why can't xfinity fix this? Do their sponsors realize the bad impression we get of the adverts when they cut off the program we're trying to watch again and again?

Re: Ad Issue during Video Playback on http://xfinitytv.comcast.net/

1) it happens during all the TV shows that have ads in them, it doesn't matter which one you are watching!!

2) All the freaking ads are disruptive, doesn't matter. They all tend to freeze!! makes it impossible to watch a show online. Serivce is horrendous!!

3) Stops after first set of commericals. Actually it just stops before the commercial even begins and blank screen comes up.

4) MAC OSX Yosemite

5) I've tried it on all different types of web browsers, experience is equally crappy on all of them

6) Doesn't matter what time of day, it's always horrible.

I love that I pay so much for such crappy service. Comcast shouldn't be needing to ask these questions. They should be testing their own service at all times. Nice quality control! (sarcasm!!) Just get it together and provide my good service for my money!! That's all I'm asking for, is that too much to ask? Juan Medina

Re: Ad Issue during Video Playback on http://xfinitytv.comcast.net/

The suggestion by Comcast Joe that the customers must submit copious amounts of information each time they experience the problem is ridiculous.  It's bad enough to have the problem, even worse that Comcast hasn't fixed it after years of issues, and then the capper that they want the customer to jump through so many hoops.  Why not put a button on the screen to hit if there are problems and then Comcast can capture the info itself?  On any of the Bravo shows, the screen goes black for long periods when on commercial break.  This is such terrible service.

2nd set of commericals
Windows 7
Explorer and chrome (both updated)
Varies time currently 1:27pm EST

Many differnt shows on H2 but the worst is its on a loop after a commerical break. The commericals will play and then a black screen saying your content will resume shortly (15 min later). Meaning it will restart the content to previous commerical break or just freezes after the 2nd commerical. I have to refresh muiltiple times and manually advance to the proper content when it goes back to the previous commerical.

Re: Ad Issue during Video Playback on http://xfinitytv.comcast.net/

One (possible) solution:

#1 - Uninstall Silverlight completely and then reinstall it.

On PC, uninstall any program by clicking the Start Button > Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features. Then, select the program, and click Uninstall.

#2 - Make sure all your web browsers are updated and that you're using the most current version.

This should solve the problem, but if it doesn't contact Customer Service/Technical Support.

Re: Ad Issue during Video Playback on http://xfinitytv.comcast.net/

Good Morning and thank you Funny girl for the reply. I made sure that Explorer , Chrome , Silverlight and Adobe Flash have been updated. I have done all three options below my next step is to load a older verison of chrome.

If anyone knows of another thing to try please let me know.

For Chrome they have stopped using PPAPI and NPAPI plugins after verison 42 of chrome and there are a few ways to force it to use PPAPI and NPAPI plugings; but Google does state another browser to view videos that require PPAPI or NPAPI.

How to enable PPAPI plugins

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. In the address bar at the top, type chrome://plugins and press Enter.
  3. Click Details.
  4. Scroll down to "Adobe Flash Player."
  5. Under "Type: PPAPI," click Enable.

If that doesn't work try this one

How to temporarily enable NPAPI plugins

If you must use a NPAPI plugin, there’s a temporary workaround that will work until Chrome version 45 is released later in 2015:

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. In the address bar at the top of the screen, type chrome://flags/#enable-npapi
  3. In the window that opens, click the link that says Enable under the Enable NPAPI flag.
  4. In the bottom left corner of the page, click the Relaunch Now button.

After the release of Chrome version 45, you’ll need to use an alternate web browser to load content that requires a NPAPI plugin. Or reinstall a verison before 42.

Also can try resetting the DRM License:

Adobe Flash and DRM content errors

On some Chrome devices, Adobe Flash may lose the ability to play DRM content such as videos from Amazon Prime. If this does occur, you will see a warning message that the Adobe Flash version installed on the browser is too old, or that you are no longer able to play protected movies. Here are the steps to correct this issue:

  1. Open Adobe Flash player's context menu (right-clicking on the Flash content should work).
  2. Select the Global Settings... menu.
  3. Select the Protected Content Playback Settings panel link or click this link  http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager08.html
  4. Click on the Reset License Files button.
  5. Sign out of your Chrome device and back in again.

@ComcastJoe, what is Comcast doing right now to identify and fix this ad problem?

I ask this question because you wrote this in March, 2014 and I don't see any further information or even a reply.

iIgoing to switch to AT&T. I'm sure you don't care that I'll do that but if ALL the people on this string switches to another provider it will have an impact on Comcast.

So. What's being done?

Problem Solver

Re: Ad Issue during Video Playback on http://xfinitytv.comcast.net/

Just an FYI, ComcastJoe has been inactive since April 22,2014..  So don't expect any response from him or probably any other comcast/xfinity employee.

They come and go, just like the waves in the ocean..

And in the process, deposit flotsam & jetsam for the unenlightened subscribers to wade through looking for assistance.

ciao, bj

p.s. the bottom line just might be that c/x has not caught up with Win 10 , and Lord knows when that will be.

Re: Ad Issue during Video Playback on http://xfinitytv.comcast.net/

Thanks for the info. It isn't Windows 10. I've had this problem for a year. I'm going to switch to  AT&T Uverse as soon as possible. Every day there is another issue and it is maddening.
