Looking forward to 1.62. I haven't have .1.61 very long. My area seems to be one of the last to get updates. I am learning patience....yep...I said it....me of all people.

I manually restarted my STB on Fri afternoon and noticed afterward that I had 1.62, whereas early Fri morning (after the nightly auto-restart), I was still at 1.61.

About screen now shows:

Release Version: xappl-XRE.62P1
XRE Server Version: 1.62.01 03/03/2016 21:02
XRE Protocol Version: 2.8.0
Receiver: Native version : 2.2.0
STB Timestamp: Wed 03 Feb 2016 06:55:22 PM UTC
eCM MAC: xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
STB Version: PX013AN_2.2p7s3_PROD_HYBse
Device ID: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Environment: p4-6o
Remote Battery Level: 10%

I'm sure there's a whole lot more that's been rolled into this XRE update, but upon first glance I can at least confirm the following:

1) as ComcastAndrew reported, under Comcast Labs there is a new Default Guide View entry with the options listed below. I've selected Favorites (of course!) and it seems to work great

[EDIT #1: works as expected when you use the Guide button to access the guide. However, it appears that when you access the guide via the Xfinity button, the Guide View reverts to All Channels versus (in my case) Favorites.  Not sure what what might happen if I were to speak "Guide" into my voice remote, but I'd like to see my Default Guide View be displayed regardless of how the guide is invoked]

[EDIT #2: works as you would expect (adheres to your Default setting) when you either 1) push the Guide button on your remote or 2) tap the Guide button within the X1 Remote app.  Does not work as expected (does not adhere to your Default setting and displays All Channels instead) when you either 1) access the guide via the Xfinity button or 2) speak the word "Guide" into your voice remote]

All Channels
HD Channels
Favorites*
Trending
Movies
Sports
Kids

2) after pressing the "C" button on the remote (or manually selecting any of the Apps), I'm no longer prompted for my Parental PIN when Safe Browse is set to Medium (or High) Safety

3) navigating through the Guide, etc. seems to be much snappier than before. This is subjective of course, so am looking forward to what others have to say

In a previous thread, I reported another issue with Parental Controls, namely that when a TVG or TVPG rated movie (via Info button) is playing on Turner Classic Movies and my Movie Rating Locks are set to lock Adult movies, I'm prompted for my Parental PIN when I tune to TCMHD. Earlier this evening I verified with Wuthering Heights, hardly an Adult movie! Was hoping this would also have been resolved in XRE 1.62. Since this issue is somewhat off-topic here, I may revisit the previous thread and indicate that there's still a problem.

Anyway, kudos to the X1 development and support teams. Feature enhancements and bug fixes rarely come as quickly as we might want, but patience is a virtue I guess since we now have Reminders and a Guide that doesn't revert back to All Channels after 90 minutes!  Now, about that buffer recording issue.  Lol

Re: Upcoming X1 Updates

I've worked with 4 field techs, 2 field tech supervisors, a tier 3 support rep, 2 call managers, and several call specialists, in the last 9 days trying to get my service working properly.

They were all very nice and generally knowledgeable.  (Although I'll be leaving work early again today since things are still not working.)

And I can say that for the most part it's a great service when it works.  (And horribly frustrating when it doesn't)

But, all that aside, it's also beyond frustrating that the monthy upgrade focus continues to be on nebulous enhancements, instead of fixing basic DVR functionality.

As this is an upgrade thread...  please "upgrade" the DVR so that it has slow motion, reverse slow motion, frame by frame, rewinds for a couple seconds when I press rewind then play or pause, begins to play when I press play after it being paused, and moves into slow motion when I press forward after being paused.  (All things that both the previous generation DVR, and my old VCR, could do.)

Any chance we can get an option to use the exact guide color theme from Kids Zone for the main X1 guide?

I really like that shade of blue.

Re: Upcoming X1 Updates

I have a comment suggestion regarding the new auto play next episode feature. This message is for Andrew or whomever is able to relay my comments. Firstly, I really like this new feature. It is missing one Imprtant element. If you allow the next episode to just start at the end of the 20 second count down clock it doesn't offer you the option to delete the original asset you were watching before the next episode launches. This
Would be nice to have as a choice. Once again, great job on this new feature but hope it can be considered to allow an option to ask if I would like to delete the viewed recording.

I would suggest that a good UI would include a preference that could be set at the same time that autoplay is turned on, that would allow for autodelete of the prior episode.  And this could be turned on universally, or overridden for a speicific series.

is this thread no longer for discussions of firmware/XRE server (menu system) updates?

1.62.05 3/22/2016 still fw 2.2p7s1

found no menu changes but the problem in 1.62.04 was fixed. now the sequential episodes actually play any of the DVRs and at least for this series actually played next episode instead of getting a VOD error.

So many times when I delete DVR recording it remains until I restart the X1 DVR Box.

I delete a recording but it remains in my DVR recordings list Smiley Sad

Is this a known bug?

You can find out more about this in the last few threads in the Technical issues thread. I would also suggest that you search for 'recordings not deleted' and you will see many references in several forums topic threads.   This problem has been around for a very long time and everytime we think its fixed.,....its NOT

changes can be non-menu related for firmware, right andrew? for example multi-DVR homes with the current problem of recording wrong 'hour' of programming for consecutive shows scheduled on same channel with 1 minute added (+) to end of the first show in the time period? Also the firmware will hopefully fix the fail to update the x1 devices list of recorded shows after a deletion (ghost listing) without having to power cycle, or power-save cycle, or even changing to SD and back to HD to update the recordings list (from all multiple DVRs)?

Re: Upcoming X1 Updates

I've read that it's potentially an attempt to placate the FCC's Unlock the Box initiative, and that they're not overly impressed since it's purely Comcast content in the app (not integrated with content from other subscriptions). I'm sure Comcast had to have been working on it for a while though. Would be pretty cool if you can still DVR to the cloud, but seems like you'll never get away from set-tops without all your TVs being smart. I've got 4 TVs and only 1 is.

The future of TV is apps!

Glad to hear that Andrew. Now maybe they can work on the bugs. The extremely annoying 'ghost' delete is still alive and well. I am building a list for Comcast Gwen of what happens when I delete programs and its very interesting . Different things happen with each deletion so there is not even consistency with that!

Re: Upcoming X1 Updates

Hello All,

Here are some additions/improvements that were made to X1 in April:

  • If a recording recorded in multiple segments (due to an interruption while recording) and that same program is available for free On Demand, users will be informed right away that the program is in segments and that there are additional Watch Options available. Users will have the choice to watch VOD version or continue to watch the segmented recording.
  • In addition to a new message when a recording is deleted, changes were also made on the backend to improve the deletion process. Now, if your recordings are unable to delete, you will see a new delete specific error message.

Stay tuned for additional updates in May.

Thanks!

Sorry to say it, but I have to disagree with brandonbob2376.  I don't find those updates to be any where near "incredible".  I find them completely lame.

An update that actually fixed the deletion problem completely would be just mediocre, since it's not an "upgrade", it's a bug fix (and yes, there is still a deletion bug).  Of course any bug fixes could realistically be classified as incredible at this rate.

The latest "upgrade" I've seen is a great new piece of trash that shows up and blocks the scoreboard area on my screen during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and lets me know that I can "find" the Stanley Cup Playoffs by using my voice remote.  Wow, that's genius, I can use the voice remote to find the channel that I'm already on, thanks for cluttering up my screen for that leap of technology.  Exactly on par with cluttering my screen with the sports app message every time I tune to a sports channel, and the kid safe zone notification, or whatever it is, every time I tune to a kid channel.

I'm looking forward to the upgrade that puts a notificaion on my screen that I can increase or decrease the volume with my remote every time I tune to a channel that has sound.

How about fix the DVR bugs in May?

Hi Gwen,

Thanks for the info.

I'm pretty sure all of the DVR issues I'm referring to have been confirmed by others on the forum, and are platform-wide bugs, as opposed to specific to my DVR.

Recap:

- Pressing FWD from Pause, initiates FF instead of Slow a significant % of the time. (this used to work fairly consistently on the first attempt, and then the bug would occur frequently on the second attempt, but now it will initiate the wrong behavior frequently even on the first attempt.)

- Initiating Slow from Pause starts the Slow at a different time/frame than where the content was paused.

- Have to press Play twice to resume play from Pause (the first press is acknowledged and brings up the progress bar, but does not Play).

- RWD for a short period produces random results.

- Exit from DVR content sometimes goes to previously watched DVR content or On Demand, instead of live TV.

- Resuming DVR content sometimes starts from an earlier position than last left off, or the beginning of the recording.

- Delete recording bug.

(This list is just "bugs", not inclusive of basic functionality requests, like real Slow, reverse Slow, frame by frame, buffer record, etc..  Although I would consider it a HUGE "feature update", to just fix the bugs.)

Re: Upcoming X1 Updates

More bugs than a Roach Motel. I haven't posted lately because I just get tired of more of the same stuff from Comcast. The point is that we still have a system that is unreliable and does odd irritating things. The other day I made two back to back recordings in the same channel and the second recording ended up including almost 45 minutes of the start of the first recording as a lead in. Just plain weird. The schedule was correct on start and stop time so  ?

It appears that even the bug fixes have bugs. It's like that horrible commercial a few years ago that had me thinking a huge cockroach was running across my screen UGH !

Yup, more fluff while substantive issues like loss of buffer recording, meaningful slo-mo, frame-by-frame advance, etc. continue to be ignored...

Thanks!

Gwen

they made an error in the coding of that process. when the 'interruption' happens now X1 incorrectly gives the 'you appear to have finished your recording, do you want to delte the recording now?' routine. you then have to answer now. (worse, if you have another episode, the routine continues with 'would you like to watch the next episode' to which you have to answer no). ONLY at that point will the routine ask you if you wish to watch the next segment of the recorded shjow. ALL of that is a bug just introduced and very confusing.
