Comcast to Launch YouTube on Xfinity X1

New Poster

Re: youtube doesnt work anymore

I've had the same problem for a couple months.  The first time it "froze" I got a workaround from comcast which worked for awhile albeit clumsy and much manual input, but then that workaround stoppped.  I've been told it is a YouTube software problem but why has this taken so long to resolve.  I've also questioned whether there are some non broadcasted internal limits to usage and been told there are none.  I used this feature heavily as who wouldn't want to watch YouTube on a big screen rather than laptop or smart phone.

My YouTube started working again last night on the TV connected to the DVR. Yahoo. Let's see how long it lasts, but thanks for now.

Re: Youtube fr

So I went over to the neighbor's house....he has xfinity as well.
I said....let's see if you get youtube?
You know what?     WE GOT IT.
Watched it for about 30 minutes or so!
So I went down the street, back  to my house to try again....NO LUCK....?
Next step....let's try voice commands....The voice command works.....I can ask for a video....
I say "you tube cat videos"   and they all pop up.
BUT....I just can't load them to play them!

It sure would be nice if Comcast would publicly address this problem instead of sending me e-mails about how great it is.

Re: You tube not not working on xfinity1 voice command

Ok, YouTube is still stuck at the big red Play/YOUTUBE Window when I try to watch anything through either one of the DVR boxes.  With all the posts has anyone figured something out.  Most of my neighbors are working....Help

Hello Shay9794, if Youtube is frozen on your X1 cable box please reboot the equipment. If you have already done this and Youtube continues to freeze, then there may be a problem with your internet connection so I would recommend you rebooting your modem as well.

Re: YouTube (Comcast Called Latest)

A couple of weeks later, It still works for me using the method I posted about above:

"Go to https://www.xfinity.com/sendtotv#landing on your computer or phone, and paste either https://www.youtube.com/tv or the direct video you want to view, and it loads perfectly!"

I'm switching out old Cisco 105+ modem for a new one. I'll let you know if this gets my DVR working with YT.

Re: YouTube (Comcast Called Latest)

Swapping your modem has nothing to do with getting YouTube working on the dvr. It's an issue still being worked on.

Re: YouTube (Comcast Called Latest)

Even if it doesn't I still need one. My old modem has a 160 mbit cap on its internal router 5g wifi. I want the full 240 with higher capabilities for the future.

Re: YouTube (Comcast Called Latest)

Question to the Comcast employee, it is now working (YouTube) on my main TV but not on my second TV in the bedroom with the small cable box. Why is it working on one and not the other? I rebooted the small cable box but still no YouTube. We had it before but not now, only on the main TV that's hooked up to the DVR. Thanks.

Re: YouTube (Comcast Called Latest)

Yes, both watchable and Pandora both work on the bedroom set. Just not YouTube. Strange that it works on the main TV in the living room and not in the bedroom. And, the bedroom box is supposed to work off the main box.

The smaller boxes only pull live tv channels from the main box. Everything else comes from different sources.

You tube frozen on TV.  Worked for a short period of time, now it accesses the video menu, but then a big red Youtube comes up and no videos

Hi Vhatucvarnec,

I'm now wondering if some older modems simply have problems with YouTube?  I swapped out my old one yesterday for a new then YouTube immediately worked.  It's still working at this very moment.

Re: You tube not not working on xfinity1 voice command

Your old modem may have been slower and borderline for handling streaming video over the Internet.

It is also possible the the older modem software was one of the modems hacked in the last few months.

It's possible your box got the software update being released.

Modems have no bearing on how the X1 platform works. This thread is referring to the YouTube app on the X1 platform.

ComcastAndrew:

Just to clarify your last reply. Are you saying a Comcast service center get's "You Tube" off the Internet first and the signal is sent to a Comcast customer over the cable using the X1 cable-box.? Therefore; the customer's WiFi/modem, or regular modem, do not come into play?

Re: You tube not not working on xfinity1 voice command

Sorry, the first part of your question doesn't make much sense. But a customer's modem does not come into play at all in how the X1 functions.

Re: You tube not not working on xfinity1 voice command

Andrew, that my box was just manufacturered and a brand new YouTube fix/update was included seems like about a one in googolplex chance. :-)

Re: You tube not not working on xfinity1 voice command

I hate to burst your bubble but there's nothing "Newly manufactured" about your equipment, it's new to you. Glad YouTube continues to work for you
Contributor

Re: You tube not not working on xfinity1 voice command

Andrew, what "bubble" are you referring to?
You mentioned my sealed new modem might have been programmed by a brand new fix. I don't understand how that could be possible.
Now we have two people who have replaced their older modems with newer ones and YouTube immediately worked. Coincidence? It just makes sense the modems must have at least something to do with it.

adding... the X1 entertainment system set top boxes get their internet from the X1 set top boxes that contain an internal DOCSIS modem. You can literally unplug your home modem and watch you tube, watchable, netflix, etc that all use (your) account's internet service. the XG1 (DVR) and XG2 currently have DOCSIS modems. someome else may point out other models that do if I have left one or more off the list.

Re: You tube not not working on xfinity1 voice command

Thank you very much for your explanation, Rusty.

Now I can see how the other modems don't really come into play. I can also see a possible reason that some posters thought replacing their modem cured the problem.

More than likely when X1 Box is unplugged to allow connecting their replacement modem, the X1 box was reset when plugging back in. The internal modem would also have been reset removing any data errors, or maybe was updated.

You totally misunderstand, there is no internal modem to replace, no unplugging the X1. It's a separate device for personal internet use, either customer owned or rented from Comcast.

Re: You tube not not working on xfinity1 voice command

Comcast did something a few weeks ago where my YouTube was back for a day or two and I got an automatic call that said it was fixed. I took that to mean they gave me the new update but it didn't last more than a day or two; it failed. It hadn't worked until I changed the modem yesterday. What else happens when you activate a new modem that would all of a sudden give me YT again? This is really weird.

Accessing YouTube on my Smart TV

I want to access YouTube on my Smart TV. When I do a voice search on my xfinity TV remote, the red YouTube screen comes up but that's all. Nothing plays.

My Smart TV has its own YouTube app that I use instead of Comcast's app.

Re: you tube app not loading

The problem with the Youtube App on Comcast X1 when doing a voice search with the remote none of the videos shown in the "Top search results for youtube" screen play when you click them and you just see a loading spinning circle. It's been like this for the last 2 months or so. The only way right now videos will play is if you open Youtube first and then click on the video you want. I did not have this each when Comcast first got the youtube app and this problem only started maybe 2 or so months ago.

I hope Youtube will fix this issue soon!

On the XG1V4 it says STB Version "Fri Mar.23 0:8:43:59 2018"
