Resolution - Computer vs TV

i have a 1080 HD Vizio, but i was wondering if the resolution of a program would be higher if i played it to my TV from my PC vs. my cable box?

No, assuming you have and HD cable box and service, the set-top box would be higher resolution on your TV than the IP stream from your PC. It will depend somewhat on what type of content you are watching but there are some contractual resolution limits on certain PC content.
