Anyone know how one gets the newer DVR in exchange for the old 3-4 year old models that Comcast supplies? The local office says they never get them but call the Main Office and order. The main office says we cannot GUARANTEE YOU WONT GET THE OLD MODELS when one is shipped. Talk about the run around that Comcast is famous for. Any suggestions
The latest model is the Motorola DCX3400 and came out in 2008 so it is already 3 years old. Many times ordering the self install kit and having it shipped will get you one, but you would be paying shipping. If your existing DVR is working, that makes it more difficult to upgrade, since many area's are in short supply and what the warehouse supplies the local office that day.
If your in an area with an Comcast Connection Center inside select Best Buy's, the Comcast sales agents have new equipment but only supply it for adding addtional equipment to your account and do not do equipment swaps.
The main thing is the larger drive to store the recordings, but there has been some odd software behaviors with the DCX3400's that the older DVRs' don't have.
Until the software issues are worked out, you might be better off with what you have.
