Xfinity Stream TV app on Samsung and LG Smart TVs

Comcast is working with equipment manufacturers to bring the Xfinity Stream app to compatible Roku devices, Samsung Smart TVs, LG Smart TVs and other Partner Devices. The Xfinity Stream app offers live broadcast channels, linear cable channels, cloud recordings and video on demand, all without having to rent an Xfinity TV Box from Comcast.

The Xfinity Stream app for Partner Devices is currently offered in a "beta" version that doesn't include the full set of features and functionality that comes with the Xfinity Stream app or the web portal. Future releases of the app will include additional features and functionality, as well as improved stability and optimization. When using the "beta" app, you won't be charged an "additional outlet" service charge. Pricing may change in the future.

Please note that Xfinity X1 is the best way to watch Xfinity TV, and not all features of X1 are available if you choose to use a Partner Device. See below for more information.

Activate the Xfinity Stream Beta App on Samsung Smart TVs

Frequently Asked Questions:

Getting Started

Am I eligible to use the Xfinity Stream app on Xfinity TV Partner Devices?

  • You'll need to be subscribed to Xfinity TV and Xfinity Internet.
  • All Internet speed tiers are eligible.
  • You'll need to use a Wireless Gateway rented from Xfinity, or a retail modem that's certified to work on the Comcast network. Visit mydeviceinfo.xfinity.com for more information on compatible equipment.

Does the Xfinity Stream app for Partner Devices have the same features as Xfinity X1?
No. Currently, the Xfinity Stream app for Partner Devices doesn't support the following features:

  • Control through the X1 Voice Remote.
  • Movie and TV show rentals through Xfinity On Demand (Available on Roku; not available on Samsung Smart or LG TVs).
  • Pay Per View event rentals.
  • Xfinity apps on X1 such as Sports, Voicemail, My Account.
  • Apps such as Pandora, YouTube and Netflix. These apps may be available through the Partner Device's platform.

Does the Xfinity Stream app work on all streaming devices?
No. Currently, only certain devices have the Xfinity Stream app. We expect to add more equipment manufacturers and devices throughout 2019. For eligible device models, see the activation information for Roku devices and Samsung and LG devices.

Why are some models not supported?
Not all device models meet the minimum hardware requirements for the Xfinity Stream app. We're working with equipment manufacturers to bring the Xfinity Stream app to more devices and models.

I'm having trouble downloading and/or installing the Xfinity Stream app on my supported Partner Device. What should I do?

  • Check that you have a supported device model at mydeviceinfo.xfinity.com.
  • Check the firmware version of your Partner Device to make sure you're using the minimum required version.
    • To update to the latest firmware on Roku, navigate to Settings > System > System Update from the home screen, and press OK to check for updates.
    • To update the latest firmware on Samsung Smart TVs, press the Menu button on your remote control. Use the down arrow to select the Support tab, select Software Update, then select Online. As long as your Samsung device is connected to the Internet, it will connect to Samsung servers to look for an update. If there is an update available, it will start installing automatically (unless the update setting is set to manual).
    • To update to the latest firmware on LG Smart TVs, click the Home button on your remote, then click Settings (Gear icon). Navigate to All Settings > General. From here, check Allow Automatic Updates. This will ensure that you have the latest LG software installed on your device.
  • Check that your Partner Device is connected to your Xfinity Internet service. Because of the design of the Partner Device, it can't run the Xfinity Stream app unless it's connected to Xfinity Internet.

Do I need to rent an Xfinity TV Box for the Xfinity Stream app to work on my Partner Device?
No. If you're a new customer, you can simply choose to use your Partner Device without renting an Xfinity TV Box from Comcast.

If you're a current Xfinity TV customer and would like to use only your Partner Device instead of your rented Xfinity TV Box, you can do so, but you'll need to return your rented Xfinity TV Box by following these instructions. You can also use a combination of both rented equipment and Partner Devices in your home. The rented Xfinity TV Box will be your “primary outlet.”

For more information on the difference in features and any credits and fees associated with using a Partner Device instead of renting an Xfinity TV Box from Comcast, check out the Credits and Fees section below.

Do I need to rent an Xfinity DVR-capable TV Box to get DVR service on my Partner Device?
No. If you use a Partner Device, you can subscribe to Xfinity's DVR service without renting a DVR-capable TV Box from Comcast. You can access and manage your recordings from the Xfinity Stream app on Partner Devices.

If you're a current Xfinity TV customer with DVR and you rent an Xfinity TV Box or use a Partner Device to access the Xfinity Stream app, you can set and delete your DVR recordings directly on your Xfinity TV Box and/or your Partner Device. At this time, remote recording control is not available.

I already subscribe to Xfinity TV. If I return my Xfinity DVR-capable TV Box, will I still have access to the recordings that were stored on that box using the Xfinity Stream app?
If you're an X1 DVR customer, you'll be able to keep some of the recordings from your Xfinity DVR TV Box in the cloud and access them through the Xfinity Stream app. Legacy (non-X1) DVR customers will lose the recordings stored on legacy TV Boxes.

Can I view all my previously purchased movies and TV shows using the Xfinity Stream app on Partner Devices? What if I returned all my Xfinity TV Boxes?
Yes, you can continue to view all your previous content purchases through the Xfinity Stream app and Xfinity Stream portal, even if you return your Xfinity TV Box.

If I'm a new customer, how do I order Xfinity TV service without renting a TV Box from Comcast?
You can order Xfinity TV online at xfinity.com or by calling 1-800-xfinity to order Xfinity TV without a TV Box.

I just ordered Xfinity Internet and Xfinity TV without renting an Xfinity TV Box from Comcast. Will the technician who installs my Internet also set up my Partner Device?
No. Partner devices, like all other customer-owned and managed devices, are installed and activated by the customer. Comcast technicians won't install supported Partner Devices. For more information about setting up the Xfinity Stream app on your supported Partner Device, check the setup guide or support web page for your Partner Device.

I just ordered Xfinity TV service; can I use the Xfinity Stream app on Partner Devices before my professional installation?
No, you won't be able to access the Xfinity Stream app on Partner Devices until your Xfinity Internet is activated.

Why is Xfinity Internet required to use the Xfinity Stream app on a Partner Device?
Partner Devices need an Internet connection to run their operating systems. Since they lack the capability to connect to two different networks at the same time, they need to connect to a single device that can deliver access to both our managed cable network and the Internet at the same time. Currently, the only way to access both is through the modem or Gateway used with your Xfinity Internet service.

My Xfinity TV service is provided through the Xfinity On Campus program. Can I use the Xfinity Stream app on Partner Devices?
Yes, Xfinity On Campus customers can use the Xfinity Stream app on Partner Devices while the supported Partner Device is connected to your campus WiFi network.

  • Note: Xfinity on Campus service is currently only available on Roku devices and Samsung Smart TVs. LG Smart TVs will be supported in a future release.

I'd like to use the Xfinity Stream app, but I don't own any Partner Devices. Can I purchase a device from Comcast?
No, but you can purchase these devices at many retail and online stores.

Using the Xfinity Stream App on Partner Devices

Can I take my Partner Device to my friend's house, hotel or vacation home and access the Xfinity Stream app?
No. The Xfinity Stream app will only work if the device is connected to your Xfinity Internet in-home network through Ethernet or WiFi. If you'd like to access your favorite content when you're not connected to your Xfinity in-home network, you can use the Xfinity Stream portal online or the Xfinity Stream app on your smartphone, tablet, or computer and watch your recordings and available content over the Internet.

Does the Xfinity Stream app on Partner Devices offer parental controls?
Yes, parental controls can be customized within the Xfinity Stream app settings. Please note that if you use the Xfinity Stream app on multiple devices, you'll need to set the parental controls separately in the Xfinity Stream app for each device. For parental control instructions on the Xfinity Stream app for Partner Devices, see setting Parental Controls with the Stream app.

How many Partner Devices can I use?
Xfinity TV customers can stream to up to five devices at the same time, with a total of 45 devices registered on the account. The limit of five simultaneously streaming devices includes Partner Devices, mobile devices (iPad, tablets, phones), and computers. Xfinity Instant TV customers can stream to up to two devices at the same time.

Does placement of the device affect my streaming experience?
Yes. The WiFi signal strength at the device can affect streaming, so the device should be placed where your in-home WiFi signal is strong.

Credits and Fees

Is there an additional charge for using a Partner Device?
There's no additional charge for using the Xfinity Stream app on Partner Devices. All other fees associated with your service will still apply, except during the beta trial, we're waiving the "additional outlet" service charge if you use the Stream app on a Partner Device. Pricing may change in the future.

If the cost of renting the first Xfinity TV Box is included in my package price, do I get a credit if I do not rent an Xfinity TV Box and use a Partner Device instead?
If your package price includes the cost of the first rented Xfinity TV Box, you'll get a credit for use of a Partner Device on your primary outlet (assuming you have no rented Xfinity TV Boxes). If you're an existing customer who has an Xfinity TV Box, you'll need to return your equipment to Comcast to receive this credit.

If your equipment rental is charged separately in your Xfinity TV package, you won't be charged for use of the Xfinity Stream app on a Partner Device on your primary outlet.

Does streaming using the Xfinity Stream app on a Partner Device count against my Internet data usage?
No. The goal of using the app on your Partner Device is to give you more options outside of our rented TV Boxes to access your full TV service within your home. The service delivered through the Xfinity Stream app is not an Internet service, so our data usage plans don't apply.

However, video services that are delivered over the Internet, like TV Everywhere content accessed via the Xfinity Stream app and web portal or content from NBC.com or the NBC and NBC Sports apps, are treated exactly the same way as any other Internet-delivered services, like Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon, and are subject to any data usage plans that might apply.

Why is the Xfinity Samsung app different from the Roku app? Some settings and how you find channels are different on each platforms.

Re: Xfinity Stream TV app on Samsung Smart TVs

To expand on this, one feature that is on the Roku app but not on the Samsung app is the ability to filter channels (for example, only show HD channels).   In my opinion, this is a key feature.  When you got to the list of channels, it always starts at the top - and there is no quick way to scroll/page down to get to the HD channels.  Without a filter, the channel list is basically unusable if you only care about HD channels.  Any plans to add channel filtering to the Samsung app?

Re: Xfinity Stream TV app on Samsung Smart TVs

Having issues on my Q6F Samsung TV where any show recorded in the last 2 weeks I get a “Video cannot be played” error 00306. Can’t playback any recently recorded show after everything working fine for the last month.

Agree with the above poster too, really need HD channel filter on TV guide to avoid having to scroll through tons of channel pages to get to HD.

Re: Xfinity Stream TV app on Samsung Smart TVs

I am hopeful that you are working quickly to complete the Samsung Smart TV app.  What I see in the Beta so far is very promising.  I look forward to one day being able to get rid of the box/cables.

Navigating live TV channels on the app is a chore in it's current form.  I cannot find any way to filter to only show HD channels, or automatically redirect to an HD channel if one is available like on my set top boxes.  It also does not currently allow to search by channel number within the guide - remote number buttons do not work - you have to scroll until you find your channel.  Using the guide button on the remote also kicks you out of the app and brings you back to TV plus - it would be great for it to open the xfinity guide when in the app rather than having to remember to click back to go to the guide.  Once these features are available - I will likely attempt to use the app full time.

Keeping the live channel active while navigating the guide (with sound in the background) and PPV streaming would be my next requests.

Hello,

I have confirmed multiple times with Samsung and Xfinity that I do have a TV that should be applicable to this app and I have spent considerable time with both Xfinity and
Samsung attempting to get the app available in the list of my Samsung MU6300 TV's apps, including firmware updates to the latest version. Please see https://forums.xfinity.com/t5/Stream-TV-App/Xfinity-Stream-App-On-Samsung-No-Longer-Available/m-p/31... and advise on best course of action, thank you.

I have been using the app for a few months now. All of a sudden this week all of the HD channels are missing and I cant access them from anywhere. I deleted the app and reinstalled it but that did not resolve the issue. Going through the forum this seems to be a common issue but I never saw a resolution posted. Thanks in advance for your help.

I was told today on the phone by the representative that it would work with my tv. Now I find out there is issues with the app. Why sell / offer / promote something that doesn't work!!! Re: Xfinity Stream TV app on Samsung Smart TVs

Hi ComcastElla,

Can't find a way to message you, but I too am having the same issues with the Samsung Xfinity Stream App not showing HD channels. They show up and work fine on Roku.

Even if I scoll down through the channel line up there's a big gap between Ch 97 and 234 where I think the live TV HD channels should be.

Any resolution to this issue?

Cheers

Re: Xfinity Stream TV app on Samsung Smart TVs

Hi, Mot911! Roku and Samsung apps should work the same because they require the same type of provisioning. Let me check your account. You do have a PM feature (I just checked), click on my name ComcastElla, you will see the Send a message option at the top corner from your right side. I just need to verify your name. Thank you!

I am constantly having errors on the app on my 2018 Samsung TV.

I couldn’t get the app to even load a couple of nights ago due to some phantom “configuration error”, and today I can’t watch my recordings because I am getting a TVAPP 00300 error code.

It’s ridiculous that there are so many issues with this app.

perhaps a new version didn't load correctly. uninstall the app. unplug the TV for 30 seconds or so then reinstall the app (be sure to accept terms and conditions). working?

Re: Xfinity Stream TV app on Samsung Smart TVs

Hi all. So I bought an LG tv under the assumption it was supported by Xfinity stream; no luck. I was told the only tv manufacturer fully supported was Samsung so I returned the set for a Samsung 7 series 55” 4K flat screen. I set the tv up however the app is NOT in the store so there is no way to download it that I am aware of. Comcast and Samsung both point the finger at each other. I’ve been on the forums and from what I can tell it should be supported. The list of valid TVs listed only goes through 2018 models. Can someone help me figure out if this is supported and how to get it?
Returning sets to Best Buy is getting very tiresome....

Thank you

Can you provide a list for partner 2019 TVs? Does the streaming app work with RU7100? Trying to buy today!

Hey Pam! Thanks for taking the time to let me know about your issue with navigating from the purchases screen on the Stream app. Have you tried rebooting your TV? How about removing the app from your library, reboot your TV, and then add the app back again and retest? If that doesn't work, I'll send you a private message.

Re: Xfinity Stream TV app on Samsung Smart TVs

I downloaded the Xfinity Stream App with my Samsung UN49MU6920. The TV is running the latest firmware. Below are bugs/defects with the application:

1.  When entering in the Settings menu, the clock at the top right-hand corner of the screen jumps ahead by a minute. When going back to the main menu from the settings menu, the time changes back to the correct time.

2. When watching live tv, the channel up and down buttons are unresponsive and do not change the channel.

3.  When in the Live TV guide, the channel button on the remote does not change the channel up or down.

4. Entering in a channel with the number pad on the remote does not change the channel when watching live TV or the "All Channel" guide.

5. When watching Live TV, after opening the on-screen popup menu overlay, the navigational arrows on the remote become unresponsive. The TV signal indicator light blinks but no selection movement happens on screen.  The only button that works is the "Return" button which navigates back to the main menu to then change the channel if needed.

I hope any of this information helps in improving the app for Samsung TV customers.

Re: Xfinity Stream TV app on Samsung Smart TVs

Hi All , thanks for your input toward the Stream app on Samsung smart TVs! The app is still in Beta for Samsung products so we definitely appreciate you taking the time to let us know about your experience. We are aware of the channel changing concerns on the XFINITY Stream beta. For now, you can change channels via the guide experience until we add more features to the app.

Tmkspecial1, I'd like to look into your specific concerns and look into these playback errors.

Re: Xfinity Stream TV app on Samsung Smart TVs

Hi, my Xfinity Beta Streaming app worked on my Samsung Q7FNA without any issues for months.
Then all of a sudden, about 2 weeks ago it completely stopped working with only a black screen and message “we had a problem reaching the configuration server”. The Samsung native TVPlus app stopped working at the same time while all other apps continue to function with no problem... Tried factory modem reset, factory TV reset, reinstalling apps, splitting 2.4 and 5ghz wi fi network names... Nothing seems to help. Samsung support says that its xfinity problem, Xfinity support acknowledges the problem and states that they are working on it with no ETA. Funny thing is that while on the phone with support TVPlus started working with both Samsung and Xfinity support (while they were looking into the issue) but as soon as I hung up the picture disappeared and the error message was back on. (Error message on TVPlus app is 1015401 cannot connect to Samsung server

Re: Xfinity Stream TV app on Samsung Smart TVs

Almost the same for me. Re-registered the TV with Comcast as new device and it worked for about 3 days after having the Can't Reach The Configuration Server Error (Comcast Blocks &/or deletes Samsung TVs from the System). After a couple days error is back. Both Samsung TV App and Xfinity STream App at the same time. All other apps work just fine.

Even stranger is all apps including the Samsung TV app & the Xfinity Stream App work just fine through my VPN provider. However because I am not on home network I am not allowed to watch any channels on Xfinity APP on my VPN.

Comcast/Xfinity clearly has DNS issues with Samsung TV app/Xfinity Stream App as well as registration issues in their system. Why can't you fix this! It is clear what the issue is to me after days and days of testing. Do you not have competent people or is your organization so big the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing anymore?

Re: Xfinity Stream TV app on Samsung Smart TVs

I have the exact same error code!
I’ve been streaming the Xfinity app in my bedroom without any issues previously, until about 2 weeks ago, when that error message came up. New Samsung TV too. Called Comcast and had a tech come out and everything, no one can figure it out. Uninstalled the app and reinstalled it, same message. The app must have a glitch. Any answers Xfinity???

try uninstalling the app again. then turn the tv off (unplug from the AC power for 3 minutes or more). plug back in. check for updates to your TV's firmware and get those done then reinstall the app and reauthorize.

Re: Xfinity Stream TV app on Samsung Smart TVs

*Edit* - After trying again today, it worked.  I deleted the app, unplugged the tv and waited about 10 seconds, plugged the tv back in and turned it on and reinstalled the app.  This time when I opened the app it went to the xfinity.com/authorize site instead of the configuration error message.  Same process I tried before but finally got somewhere.**

I get the same error and have uninstalled and reinstalled several times.  I never get asked to re-authorize, it just gives me the configuration error.  It works fine on my computers, phones and my LG tv.

Re: Xfinity Stream TV app on Samsung Smart TVs

I downloaded the app and it was working on my Samsung TV. I checked my model is supported for this app. It worked fine but now after a refresh of a different matter now my Samsung remote does not fully work.  I can access the app and do initial browsing.  But when I try to use the guide or menu button it kicks me out to another default app. I tried to remove said  app but cannot as it was Samsung installed in the tv.

Re: Xfinity Stream TV app on Samsung Smart TVs

Hello, I got Xfinity a few days ago and loaded XFinity Stream on my Samsung TV.  It seems to work okay, but I do not see my HD channels adn the other channels show up with the bars around all four sides.  Is this the best I can hope for with this, or am I missing something?  Thanks!

hi, there are many types of customers and subscription options for cable TV. are you an X1 customer? if so, look at your most recent bill. is there a line that says 'HD technology free' for $10 or $0 shown on your bill?

an official employee will reply here usually within 72 hours of your post or you can call 800-Comcast and select billing and ask the agent if the line can be added to your account for $0 or if you have to pay the $10/month HD fee.
