Just purchased a Fire TV stick for my Samsung Smart TV and having trouble accessing some apps such as HGTV, Food Network, DIY channel. There may be others apps with access issues, but these are the ones that I'm aware of right now. When opening these apps, a screen pops up and states that I am "not authorized" and the my service provider returned a message that I am not authorized to view this video. I never get to the screen that displays the activation code.
These channels are part of my Xfinity package, I can watch them on TV and via the Xfinity/Comcast website on my comouter, Spent over an hour on the phone with Comcast yesterday and got bounced around to several people/depts - they couldn't help and finally kicked me over to Amazon. Comcast 'refereshed' my box and that did not help. When speaking with the amazon rep, we reset the FireTv stick to factory settings, updated software, cleared the cache, reset the unit (on/off) etc.. and I still have the same issue.
Would appear to be a Comcast problem and I've read elsewhere (for other providers) this turned out to be a sync issue between their internal databases.
Anyone have this problem and if so, how was it solved?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
Solved! Go to Solution.
It's a Comcast issue regardless of what they tell you.
It's not just FireTV. Roku is also affected by Comcast limiting authorization to iOS and Android only.
I am having the same issue for HGTV, Disney as well as ABC. ABC says it is not available in my area. However, if I use ABC GO it works fine. We also cannot access Nick Jr. It doesn't even list XFinity or Comcat.
In addition to the thousands of choices available on the Xfinity Stream app and online via the Xfinity Stream portal, we currently provide access to more than 80 network websites and apps across 21 devices. We're working to expand access and content choices for even more options in the future. Right now, the following networks are available:
If you currently subscribe to these networks and are unable to authenticate using your Xfinity credentials, we recommend verifying that it is not a device issue. To verify if it is the device you are currently on, try accessing the app/website on a different device. For instance, if you are on your Amazon Fire Stick and experiencing difficulties, try on your phone or computer. If you can successfully authenticate on another device, it is most likely a device issue we recommend contacting the device manufacturer or Network directly (links to network websites above). If you continue to experience an issue logging in on a different device it could be a profile issue, which we will happily investigate. Feel free to post your results here for additional assistance.
My Fire TV stick is not compatible with Xfinity (even though Xfinity says it is).
where did you read that the fire stick ever worked with the xfinity stream TV app?
If you check out the best answer marked in this thread: https://forums.xfinity.com/t5/Stream-TV-App/Xfinity-Stream-App-Amazon-Fire-TV/m-p/3171788#M19555 , you can find all the compatible amazon devices for the Stream app.
I can access CNBC but not live CNBC with my Amazon Fire stick. I can access live CNBC with my Chromecast. Can someone at Xfinity contack Amazon for us or fix it on Xfinity's end so I can access live CNBC with my Fire stick? I pay for live CNBC on my cable bill. Thanks!
I might add I try to sign in on the Fire stick site to Xfinity, but it just throws me back to the "select your cable company" page and won't accept my sign in info, though this info works for a lot of other Fire stick cable site apps.
