Digital adapters that Comcast rents to me

We currently pay $5.99 ea. two rent two digital adapters, where each adapter is connected to a TV.

These are NOT the same thing as a cable boxes.

It is my understanding that these digital adapters are not available for sale on the retail market.

Does this sound  correct?        Thanks.        Smiley HappySmiley Happy

I see this as marketing scam. A ridiculous monthly fee for digital adapters that you can’t buy in the open market, a monthly “sports fee”, “broadcast fee”.   All so they can market a lower price for their services before these add-ones..  And even if you are committed to a yearly contract they increase these made-up fees during the term.  Their costs should be reflected up front in base price and consumers should be able to buy their own DTAs.
