Avoiding fee for Digital Transport

I am looking to get local channels on my guest room tv. I see there is a digital transport option but I am not a fan of a rental fee. If I buy my own can I have it activated under my account and avoid a fee?

Those boxes aren’t available for retail sale, if you come across them being sold privately, they won’t be activated.

Time for Comcast to sell them outright.  A $10 piece of electronics costing $71.88 a year per device.

If you select the "choice TV" service, Comcast will provide you two HD-DTA free of charge, $0.00 rental cost per month, and without the $10 HD-tech fee.   A third HD-DTA will be provided for 50 cents per month if you choose it.
