wi-fi and interenet connections

I have recently updated the modem, since doing that,seems that my internet connection is very slow, and every time I turn computer on always says you are not connected to internet,wi-fi is turned off, this never happened before, and also on TV whenever I try to watch a recorded show on Demand it is all distorted and cannot see picture at all, and sometimes cannot get it to record, just curious if anyone would have any ideas, I have checked all conections,did speed test etc, and one more thing, on old modem the 2.4GHz and 5 GHz lights flash constantly and never did before
