tracking an e-mail

Is it possible to track e-mails to see if the other person receives it?  I have received receipt requests from senders and I think it could be a great tool to us.  Can anyone answer this question?

Re: tracking an e-mail

Most full email programs have this, but it's of limited value as it's up to the recipient to allow the receipts to be sent. Recipients often deny these. Given that, and the fact that Comcast's webmail doesn't offer this feature (supposedly Coming Real Soon Now), you're probably better off including some version of "Please reply so I know you got this" with the message you send.

Just to add, the new format does have a send "Read Receipt" feature.  But understand that not all email providers support the use of receipts.  Yahoo and Gmail, for example, do not in the free accounts.  So it's usefulness is a mixed bag anyway.
