From another thread, it was recommended that I sent a message to firstname.lastname@example.org and provided Comcast with my account info, mailing address, new username, phone contact along with the request to restore my "old" username. Just to be safe, I also called the Comcast 800 number. While trying to be helpful, the 800 service coud not do anything but submitted a repair ticket for me.
My old username was restored within hours of my contact. For that I'd like to thank this community for guiding me in the right direction and Comcast for the expeditious service.
