I wish to replace the Comcast cable modem router with my own by purchasing as Comcast does not sell their used equipment.  Does Comcast recommend or require that only certain a modem router can be used?  I will need a cable internet modem router with WiFi and a phone jack/port.

Re: inquiry

Hi @PaulJones7643,

There are a limited number of customer-owned devices that are approved for use by Comcast. You can see the list here: http://forums.xfinity.com/t5/Home-Phone-Service-Equipment/How-to-purchase-and-install-a-voice-modem/...

If you have further questions, please feel free to ask!

Re: Info on Comcast approved modems/routers

Thank you.  I suspect Comcast only includes expensive units to discourage customers from purchasing their own and keep renting.

Be sure to check the "Voice/Telephone enabled" box on their "Compatible retail equipment" page.
