I don't know a thing about iPhones but did you change the password on your phone after you changed it in your account?
How is the laptop email set? POP in an email program? If so it may be set to download from the server and delete them at the same time.
If it is an email program set to IMAP and you delete them from laptop they won't be on the server any more either.
Check your "Email Safe List" setting under Users & Preferences / (username) / Email Settings at https://customer.comcast.com/Secure/UserSettings. This option sometimes gets turned on when it should be off. If you can't find the "Email Safe List" setting you'll need to log in with the Primary user ID.
