data usage

what attects my 'data usage'? I frequently receive a notice (usually on the last couple of days of the month) that I have used ~90% of my allotted limit but I don't know what data is being counted.  Movies? email? browsing?

Re: data usage

Your question is a good one, and it deserves a good answer. Unfortunately, Comcast doesn't have one answer, it has at least two. https://www.xfinity.com/support/internet/data-usage-what-counts-towards-my-data-plan/ says:

All data usage delivered over your home XFINITY Internet service, both downloaded and uploaded, is counted towards your data plan, regardless of the source.

However, a similar policy statement located at https://www.xfinity.com/support/cable-tv/live-tv-streaming/ says:

When you are in your home and connected to your in-home XFINITY network, streaming video ... will not count towards your XFINITY Internet monthly data usage.

Unfortunately, those policy statements are in direct contradiction.
