Xfinity and Kindle Fire

For over three years I have been accessing my Comcast e-mail account through my Kindle Fire 8 (Sixth generation).  Suddenly I have been experiencing unexplained connection problems.  My Fire indicates I am connected to the Comcast network, I am able to receive but not send e-mail messages.  I have checked the incoming and outgoing server and port settings and they are both as previously used and as Comcast currently recommends. What software has Comcast changed?

How should I fully reconnect to Xfinity e-mail?
