Router WiFi issue

I currently have the Arris Surfboard SBG6400. One thing that's always been an issue since I've owned this modem/router is that it seems like my devices connected to the WiFi are often out of sync or getting dropped. What I mean by out of sync is that while all my devices say they are connected to the wifi and appropriate router, there is poor communication between the devices that are using this router. Specific examples include: 1. My printer does not show up as an available printer on my laptop intermittently. Sometimes I have to turn my printer on and off a few times before my laptop sees it and then I can use it. 2. I have a chromecast, and sometimes my tablets or computer don't seem to recognize that there is a chromecast available, or if I've been streaming for a while, will not be connected to it anymore. Similar to the printer, if I unplug my chromecast or reset the wifi on my laptop or tablet a few times, eventually they will connect to each other.

Any recommendations or ideas that might be causing something like this?
