I am a having a similar problem. My firmware just got updated the other day and now my event log and my help screens are all written in html.
What is going on? I tried a restart and this changed nothing.

Make and model of your equipment?
After much research, I have found the answer to why the SB6190 Arris modem only displays HTML when you click on the "event log" and "help" menu buttons at the top. Apparently, there is an issue with the Google Chrome browser that causes this to happen. If you use FireFox to view the status of the modem, all the pages will display properly.
