Re: Poor internet speed

I'm having same issue.  Had a technician come out this morning who didn't give me much confidence right from the start.  He told me it was a Windows 10 problem.  Then why does my Windows 7 Prof have the same issue?  Oddly, my iphone has the only good connection.  I'm paying for 300 mbps and get about 50 on average.  When AT&T fiber gets here this year, i'm switching.

Re: Poor internet speed

Hi, medab1. I just ran a diagnostic on your connection and the signal being delivered to your modem looks excellent at this time. You mentioned that your hardwired speeds are good, are you only experiencing slow speeds via WiFi? I can help take a look at your wireless gateway's device settings to make sure they're optimized. Please click my name, ComcastMax, and then click Private Message Me to send me a message verifying your full name, address, and the phone number associated with your account so I can assist. Thank you.

You didn't post the requested signal stat figures.... Good luck with this.

The speed problem is with Comcast.

Although it would be hard to get them to admit it.

They don't care about customers.

They just care about raking in as much money as they can.

In your opinion, this may be true, but no one can offer insight based on "I tried everything" type replies. There may be issues in your boot file, signal stats etc. but since nothing gets posted no one can say one way or another. Hope you get this fixed your way, good luck.

My internet connection via ethernet works good.

It operates at 1Gbps.

Re: Poor internet speed

You didn't post if it's a Comcast supplied gateway device ? If it is, try that other address I gave you.

Error---

The speed was slow on the old modem as well as with the new one. Smiley Sad

I'm going to chat with Comcast again.

Maybe it's a conspiracy by Microsoft to get me to buy Windows 10. Smiley Wink

Thanks for trying to help.

I've run virus scans too.

No viruses.

I pay for 100 Mbps download speed.

I get much less.

I had a tech visit & he said the problem was in my computer.

My computer is in good shape.

I chatted with a tech & he is sending me a new modem for a $15 fee.

I must return the old one to Comcast.

I think that if the new modem does not solve the problem, Comcast should reduce my internet bill. :

Start with the modem's signal stats. Perhaps they already are, or they are close to being out of spec and intermittently they go completely of spec. Try getting them here http://192.168.100.1 or here http://10.0.0.1

Please post the *Downstream Power Level*, the *Upstream Power Level*, and the *SNR* (Signal to Noise Ratio) numbers.

What is the exact make and model number of the modem ?

Is this a WiFi connection ?

Re: Poor internet speed

Yes, I tried everything.

Nothing helped.

I've been working on this issue for months.

Re: Poor internet speed

Did you try any of the other troubleshooting tips in that link? They are great starting points for narrowing down a issue.  If so, can you post the results. Have you reran the speed experience test since it was unable to analyze your connection? Are you using a direct ethernet connection or is this a wireless connection. If wireless, all sorts of factors (distance from router, obstructions, metal walls  to name a few) can cause the signal to degrade and you may only see a % of your full speed.

Speed tests alone are not a good way(imo) to evaluate your speed. As you posted, you ran 3 in a 5 minute period and got 3 distinct/different results. If you run one over a period of time, at the same site and build a good average, it can be a first indicator of a issue.

Good luck, post those results if you still need help.

I guess I'll use Firefox.

And gnash my teeth over not getting the speed I'm paying for.

Re: Poor internet speed

On my old service I was supposed to get 50 Mbps.

That's what I got more or less.

Since I got another package for 100 Mbps my speed has gone way down.

The problem is with Comcast, not me. Smiley Sad
