New Modem required???

I just got an e-mail ostensibly from Xfinity telling me they are upgrading the speeds in my area and my modem cannot accept those speeds so I should register to get a new faster modem which of course would be free.  The mail looks very official but it never used my name.  Is this legit or phising?
