New Modem for Current High Spreed Internet Service in My Area

Greetings,

I got a popup messagefrom Comcat when using the Internet. It said I need to order a new modem from Comcast for the "Current High Spreed Internet Service in My Area".

I just got a new modem about 2 years ago. It is the tall one with phone service jacks.

Do I have to get another new modem this soon?

Re: New Modem for Current High Spreed Internet Service in My Area

I may have posted this in the wrong forum. I am using home desktop with Firefox when the message pops up.

Is the the right area to post this question?

Thanks

It is more for the Internet-Home Network forum.

I got that notification and it was a good thing;  my speed increased from 250 down to 400 down.

Highly recommended.

Thanks robertwy !

The part # on the front at the bottom of my current modem is TC8305C.

Can you tell me if this modem is now obsolete for my area, Chicago Burb ?

Thanks again !

Try this:  I can't check because I am not in your market.

The TC8305 is a bit of a back number. Comcast support pages say it's good for 150 Mbps max. See:

Thanks BruceW!

Is it common to  get a popup message from Comcast  about connection speed while browsing the

Internet? This is the first time that ever happened to me.

I don't know how common it is.  I've never seen it, but it's been reported here in the Forums a number of times.

ETA: See https://forums.xfinity.com/t5/Customer-Service/Are-you-aware/m-p/3013257#M142756, which includes this statement about the popup by Comcast employee jlivingood:

... If you own your modem we're informing you that it is either end of life (EOL) or that you are about to get a speed upgrade that the modem will be unable to deliver.

At first I thought the popup might have been something shady but it had a link on it that took me to comcast login to sign up for a new modem. I didn't sign up yet though.
