Internet connectivity

I have an Xfinity WiFi Capable, Dual Band 802.11ac Wireless Gateway.  A couple of months ago I purchased an Amazon Fire TV device, hooked it up to my TV and watched movies - until last night when, during a movie, I lost internet connection twice.  I had to reset the Wireless Gateway twice, including pressing the WPS button each time, to finally finish the movie.  No computers in the house were on at the time.  Two smart phones were on but not in use.  What's the problem?
