I recently went from wireless to an Ethernet connection on my modem to my laptop. I have my own modem Arris SVG2482AC. The light is amber and blinking. I have another laptop that is newer and using the same cable I don't experience the same problem and have a green blinking light. I understand that amber means the speed is 10/100 instead of 10/1000, but I am not experiencing lost connections with the other laptop. Does this mean there is a problem with the network adapter card on the laptop having the problem? Like I stated above , the wireless connection seemed to not have the same problem, or is that because of the wireless buffering or something like that?
Thanks for any help you can give or enlighten me on how the connections work and any settings to check.
It is much appreciated,

Possibly. Have you tried connecting that laptop to a different port on the gateway ?
