Re: HJT Log - Please Help!

There are only two ActiveX modules to remove. What error messages have you been getting?

First:
Run HiJackThis and press the Scan' button

When the scan is finished:
Check the following items in HijackThis.
O16 - DPF: {88D758A3-D33B-45FD-91E3-67749B4057FA} - http://dm.screensavers.com/dm/installers/si/1/sinstaller.cab
O16 - DPF: {8EC18CE2-D7B4-11D2-88C8-006008A717FD} (NCSView Class) - http://63.241.168.238/ecwplugins/ncs.cab

Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked.

Reboot in normal mode

Run HiJackThis again and post a new log in this thread.

Second:
Please download SilentRunners from here:
http://www.silentrunners.org/Silent%20Runners.zip

Unzip it to the desktop and double-click on it.
Silent Runners will ask if you want to skip the supplementary search.
Please select 'No' to include them.

The program will take longer to run, but will give us more information.

If you get any kind of warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

When the scan is finished, a message will pop up and a logfile will have been created on the desktop.
The logfile is named 'Startup Programs' by default and will be located where the program is.

Please post the entire contents of this logfile for me to see.

Re: HJT Log - Please Help!

Been getting IE error and needs to close and several error at module/cannot read (unfortunately did not write down the #).   Never had these before.  Computer running slow and when closing programs getting "not responding" and having to "end now" to get them to close.

Just wanted to check it and make sure nothing seriously wrong.  Thanks for your help!  Smiley Happy

Re: HJT Log - Please Help!

Silent Runners was clean.

Check you event logs for more information on the errors: (Control Panels -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer)

Check the Application and System logs.

You can export the files to a Notepad document: (Action -> Export List...)

The logs can be sizeable, so if you want to proceed further, then just post the portions with errors.

Tks LPP.  You are right - the logs are sizeable.  Will try to post only the error ones in next couple days.

I can get to export list, but don't know what to do next to get it to a Notepad document

Re: HJT Log - Please Help!

What I want him to do is save the exported event log first. Then he can open it in Notepad and copy out the info needed.

Mars, once you open the event log, and do the Action -> Export list...., you will get a save file dialog. In the left column of the dialog, press the 'Desktop' button. Now in the file name area, supply a file name. I suggest applog for Application and syslog for System. Windows will automatically supply the .txt extension. Now press the 'Save' button.

You will find the saved log on the Desktop. Double click on it to open it in Notepad. Copy and a small portion of the file that contains the errors and paste that into your next post in this thread.

Re: HJT Log - Please Help!

Thanks for the info.

Can you check the Application Hang errors and advise what program was hanging. Your system is clean and with the exception of the application hang errors, there is nothing to be concerned about in the Event logs.

There are a couple more ie 6 & 7 errors and some more "fault buckets".

Is this enough?

Re: HJT Log - Please Help!

Nothing definitive there either, although there is one file I want you check.

Search for P!3DFWs.EXE, right click on it, select properties. then check the Version tab, if there is one. I am trying to find out who it belongs to.

Other than that, I have no clue as to why yuo are getting the error messages. There is no consistency to the erros you have posted that would point in a direction.

Re: HJT Log - Please Help!

There is no version tab; however the file "belongs" to a Punch Super Home Suite program that my son downloaded couple years ago.
I'm glad his computer is clean.  Random error messages make me wonder though...

Re: HJT Log - Please Help!

If he has software covering a period of years it is entirely possible that some of it is now incompatible with Windows XP and the various fixes applied since release. You can check with the various software manufacturers for support forums/faq's and look for updates.
