Gigabit Service Router Requirements

So I was just talking with Comcast about available options.   They discussed the gigabit plan but stated my "new" Arris SB8200 modem didn't qualify and I had to rent the XB6 modem from them for the service.

I have read some of the threads here and people stated they were using their own modems.  The rep stated maybe it was a local thing but the system was stating that I needed to rent a modem.

Is that true?  Is it because the SB8200 has some issues?

Just curious.

Re: Gigabit Service Router Requirements

Your SB8200 will handle Gig speeds. It's true that some areas still require that you rent the XB6 for Gig speeds. However, you can just let them install the XB6, then swap it for your modem and return the XB6 to Comcast.

I am not an employee.

Re: Gigabit Service Router Requirements

I'd find a different rep to talk to, preferably in the store.
