FAX Error Problem

When I try to send a FAX I get the Result: Error 322. The FAX had worked great for quite some time. I am using HP Officejet 6100 Series 6110 all-in-one (Printer/Fax.Copier/Scanner), HP PC Media Center, and Windows Vista. Some changes I have made might be a Problem. I have changed phonne services twice recently: from ATT to Vonage to Magic Jack. How do I correct the Error 322? Thank you in advance for you help.

Re: FAX Error Problem

What does the HP Officejet 6110 manual say?

Re: FAX Error Problem

Google is your friend.

From HP's own site, an explanation of Error 322

Error Code: 321, 322, 323, 324

Definition

There was a communication error with the receiving fax machine due to poor telephone line conditions.

Solution

  • Set the receiving machine to receive at a slower transmission speed
  • If the session fails after sending several pages of a large document, resend the document as several smaller documents.
  • Retry the fax reception at a different time when telephone line conditions have improved. Call the telephone provider if line conditions fail to improve.

You will find other posts and discussions that same pretty much the same thing, it's a line quality issue.  Most common fix is turning the speed down or turning ECM off.  Might also be the other fax machine is not quite up to the task, but solutions are the same, slow it down and turn ECM off.

I'd recommend just scanning the doc and sending it via email, FAX is just yuck.

Re: FAX Error Problem

I must confess, It is embarassing to be so ignorant about these things, but here goes: How do I turn the speed down? How do I turn off the ECM?

I appreciate your help very much

Re: FAX Error Problem

from page 35 of the manual which i downloaded from HP.....

use Error Correction Mode (ECM)
ECM eliminates data lost due to poor phone lines by detecting errors that occur
during transmission and automatically requesting retransmission of the
erroneous portion. Phone charges are unaffected, or may even be reduced, on
good phone lines. On poor phone lines, ECM increases sending time and
phone charges, but sends the data much more reliably. Turn ECM off (the
default setting is on) only if it increases phone charges substantially and you are
willing to accept poorer quality in exchange for reduced charges.
1 Press Menu.
2 Press 6, then press 7.
This selects Advanced Fax Setup, then selects Error Correction Mode.
3 Press to switch between Off and On.
4 Press Enter to use the selected setting.

I do not see a setting to change the transmission speed.
