There are other options. Google for WiFi repeaters / range extenders, WiFi mesh systems / pods, powerline ethernet adapters, MoCA adapters. Good luck !

Enhancing Wi-Fi signal and keeping wire and wireless network compatiblity.

I have wire and Wi-Fi networks from Comcast modem, that are compatible. For example, I can use wire only printer from a laptop on Wi-Fi network. I want to enhance Wi-Fi signal that is too week in the locations far from the modem. But I want to keep compatiblity of my wire and Wi-Fi networks and not to create a new wireless network.

What should I use for this purpose: router, access point, extender or something else? I am not very knowledgeble in networking.
