Digital voice and gateway

I’m looking to relocate my gateway modem and wanted to move it to an area does not have a phone line near. I do have a coxial that I can connect the gateway too. In order for digital voice to work does a phone line from the house need to be connected to the gateway or can I plug a cordless phone to the gateway.

You can plug the phone directly in. That will cause the jacks in the house not to work. And are you sure that the cable in the new location is live.

The cable is live as I have a cable box already there. I just don’t have a phone line close to it and was wondering if i could just set up a phone directly with the gateway
