I just upgraded to the DPC3941T gateway from Comcast, and the wifi range on both the 2.5 and 5 gig networks seems to be very poor. I can be within about 30 feet, but if I am around a couple of corners I get a very weak or no signal; and this is in wood-frame construction. Does anyone know if this a know problem, or a sign of a defective gateway? I know I can get my own modem and router (and I may if I can't solve this problem), but just wondering if anyone has a solution?
I wish one of the items applied, but they really don't. Gateway is on the first floor of the house, near the center. I should also have mentioned that I did not have the problem before I got my new gateway.
Google for info on WiFi extenders / repeaters, powerline ethernet adapters, or MoCA adapters. One of these options *may* provide a solution for you. Good luck !
I think what people who are stuck with these modems want to know is why is the signal so weak? In my house, not even the power line boosters offer much help. The old setup I had used a Linksys WiFi router and there was no problem with signal strength. Now we are burdened with this Cisco dog. Signal strength is only one of its many problems.
