Cable Signal Knowledge

I am trying to get in-depth tech understanding of cable signal.

I am trying to figure out how signal strength dbmV equites to, band width, internet / network speed?

I am also trying to understand if there is or if not, why there are not tools like a BNC to Rj45 tester that could filter and measure the internet signal before the cable modem, (basically remove the BNC cable and put it into your laptop and measure the signal without any interference from the internal networks, Wi-Fi and wired)

If anyone knows of resources or websites that talk about these things, it would be much appreciated?

Re: Cable Signal Knowledge

Obviously it is beyond the scope of these help boards to offer that much training / knowledge about cable and DOCSIS. The CableLabs and the Volpe Firm websites have a wealth of knowledge available in this area. Google for info.
