Arris modem and router

I installed a new XFINITY Wireless Gateway  ( Arris Model TG1682G) in April on the promise of it being a faster, safer modem. Since then, when online, I have had more instances of freezing and messages of OFFLINE than ever before. Speeds have not increased and in fact I think it is slower. Anyone with the same experience?
