I didn't have an issue with my older modem, but sure send me a free upgrade, the xFi Wireless Gateway.
Ok everything works fine, internet, wifi, TV... no phone. I called customer service, I need to plug my phone into the back of the new modem? What? I didnt have to do that with the old one. No sir I have no phone plugs in my office/spare room where I've installed my modem, same place as the old modem was, my phones worked through my wall jacks. No sir, my closet phone jack is down the hall in another room. No sir I'm not moving my new modem and my PC on ethernet and my desk to that room. MY PHONES WORKED BEFORE THROUGH MY WALL JACKS!! Seriously sir I have to plug a wall phone into the back of the new modem? Sure fine, yes, the phone works but now my other phones connected to my home phone jacks don't work.
This is an upgrade? Why did my phone jacks work before and now they don't?
I don't think he understood what I was saying or is it not possible anymore to use my home phone jacks with this new upgraded modem?
Does anyone understand what I'm saying, he sure didn't or this upgrade isn't an upgrade for the phones... Not happy....

On your old modem, there should have been a phone cable plugged into the Tel 1 port on that back, that then connected to a wall jack somewhere in your home. Find that cord and connect it to the Tel 1 port on the back of your new modem.
That cord will activate the rest of the wall jacks in your home.
I forgot I also have this in my basement if this helps. It was installed when we moved into our home 4 years ago.
