I have TV, Internet and phone service with Comcast and this just started. My modem restarts when I receive a call. I occurs when someone leaves a message and sometimes it occurs when I get a call. Anyone having this prolem.
This has started happening to me as well. I upgraded to a Cisco DPC3941t gateway back in February when changed out my old DVR to a 4k box. I first noticed it resetting after a phone call about 2 weeks ago. Since then it has been happening more frequently. It happens not only when a caller leaves a message but seems to happen more often when the caller hangs up first rather than me. Has anyone found a cure for this??
I am having the same problem, too. Besides restarting sometimes after leaving a message, it restarts after receiving a call. It does not happen every time so it is hard to determine what is causing it. It is happening at least twice a day - very annoying. I am wondering if I should take the modem back to Comcast and get a new one.
Any progress in finding a reason or cure for this? It happened to me again yesterday. Seems to happen more often when the caller is the one who hangs up first or calls where the voice mail picks up.
I went to the Xfinity store yesterday and got a new modem. We will see if I have any more problems. It's been less than 24 hours so time will tell.
My Xfinity modem DPC3941T resets after phone calls, not every call, but happens several times a day after phone calls.
Looks like a lot of people are having the same issue, the comast technician has no clue that the problem exists.
Reseting the modem does not help. Got the modem in Dec. after switiching to xfinity, problem started in March.
Comast keep providing refurbished equipment.
We went through 3 TV refubrished boxs and then after insisting on a new one, that problem is solved.
Now have to go to the store and insist on getting a new modem.
If I ask them to ship a new one they say I have to pay for the shipping, what a shame.
I took my modem back to the Xfinity store and got a new one. About 24 hours later the modem restarted its self. It has only restarted once after that. I think there is a problem with Xfinity somewhere. It's been over a week now and no restart. I would like to think my problem is resolved with the new modem but I am not sure since it has restarted twice since I exchanged it.
I started experiencing the problem for about 3-4 weeks with the same Cisco DPC3941T modem that I received (as an upgrade) and installed on 8/22/2018. I also duplicated the issue as described below and found the following:
1. When I call the home phone from my cell phone and after the conversation I hung up the cell phone first, within 10-20 seconds my home phone has no tone, and after another 10-20 seconds the modem reboots.
2. If instead the coversation is ended by hanging up the home phone first and then the cell phone, there is no loss of tone or modem reboot.
I just finished talking to Xfinity tech support and will have a technician come tomorrow to look into the issue and also requested the tech to bring a different supplier modem - not the same Cisco DPC3941T; they have Arris and Technicolor as alternate modems. And, after finishing the conversation with Xfinity Technical Support and Customer Solutions, I lost phone tone and the modem rebooted.
The tech from Comcast came on 11-6-2018 and measured and determined that the signal strength going to the modem and TV boxes was low; they want to see signal strength below -50 dB, mine was in the -55 dB range. The tech installed an AC powered distribution box (booster) that would maintain the strength of the incoming signal being distributed to all the TV boxes (4) and modem. After installation of this distribution box, the signal strength accross all my equipment improved to about -45dB and the issue with the Cisco DPC3941T modem was no longer duplicated. However, I still opted to replace the Cisco modem with the Arris TG1682G and since then I didn't have a single modem reset.
I have a similar problem. I have a Netgear purchased modem, not from Comcast. Been working fine for months. Now any incoming call (message or not) causes the modem to at least partially reboot (most lights go out, and they start blinking one by one, just like a normal reboot). Answering the incoming call gets dead air. On the other end, the caller hears the phone keep ringing and gets switched to voice mail.
Outgoing calls work fine. If on a call, call waiting works. But, answering kills the modem.
So, after any incoming call, no internet, no dial tone, until the modem restarts.
Went through level 1 and level 2 troubleshoot. Confirmed the issue, but can't say why it is now happening. My next step is to go get another modem and see if that fixes it.
There are a few other posts with detailed discussion on changing settings, and hacking the default way the device is supposed to work. Most of these don't seem to work.
