  Yesterday I recieved a phone call- The caller ID displayed my home phone number

I was not even on the phone

So how does my home number be displayed as if I am calling in---when none was using the line

It's possible for a phone number to be "spoofed," which means scammers can use a program to decide what number appears on your caller ID. They figure people will be interested/intrigued and pick up a call from their own number, or a similar one. That's probably what happened in your case - just a case of spoofing.
