Is there a default length of time that emails to my comcast.net address will be viewable? Is there any way to adjust the length of time they will stay in my Inbox before disappearing?
Are you still in the old email format or the new one? To tell, look at the URL in the address bar. If it says Zimbra you are in the old one, if it says Appsuite you are in the new one. If you are in the old one, from the Inbox page go to Preferences>>>>>Email>>>>>.Email Deletion Schedule. There you will see the options for changing the length of time for deleting emails. If you are in the new one, there are no schedules you can edit. Emails are kept until you delete them, except for Trash and Spam. Spam is stored for 7 days or 2,000 messages, whichever comes first. Trash is stored for 14 days or 5,000 messages, whichever comes first. You cannot change them.

I forgot to mention--------if you are in the old format, at some point you will be migrated to the new one. Any deletion schedule you had in the old format will not carry forward.
