SSID not Showing for WiFi

My PC is connected through my Ethernet cable without any problem. However, the list of WiFi connections available is not showing the SSID for our router (only for those of our neighbours). Also other laptops in my household do not see the SSID, and as a result they cannot connect to the internet. I tried to reset the router pushing the button on top for 10 seconds, but nothing changed.

Hold it in for 30-40 seconds, then release.

Re: SSID not Showing for WiFi

Thanks for your help, alas it didn't work, but following are more details.

I pushed the button on top for longer than 40 seconds as you suggested, but nothing changed. The button was flickering for a bout a minute, and then went back to normal. All the other lights for power, WiFi, TV and telephone line availability staid on. The list of SSID's detected by my and other laptops is still not showing my router. There is an "xfinitywifi" network shown in the list with a question mark on it, indicating unsecure connection and poor connection. I'm wondering if this would be it, after doing some more tweaking from the 10.0.0.1 page. To add some insight into my problem, the problem seem to have started at the same time I lost TV reception; after a while I discovered a signal booster in the basement had been unplugged, but after plugging it back in I got back my TV signal. My internet router, by the way, sits in my office under the desk, so it's very close to the laptops that are trying to establish WiFi connection.

Re: SSID not Showing for WiFi

The reset button is located in a recessed hole on the rear with which you need a pen tip or a bent paper clip to push it. Don't know what that top button is but me thinks that it may be the WPS pushbutton.

I pushed the reset button as you suggested, and everything returned normal. Thanks for your help, double kudos!

The one above, as you suggested, is the WPS. I downloaded the manual for the modem, which is an Arris TG852, and it prescribed to push the reset button for 15 seconds.
