I can log in but then get: "Unable to connect to mail server. Possible reasons: The mail server is (temporarily) down or there are network connection problems. Please try again in a few minutes."
Just sent a test email from my Gmail account to my Comcast account with NO issues. I'm in the Chicago area, 60068.
You need to identify the zip code you're experiencing the issue in. Not everybody is having this issue. There are probably regional servers in the Comcast network and some may be having issues. Maybe there was an update that some servers were adversely affected by causing the issues being reported. There may also be internet network issues getting to those servers, again, regionally.
To answer those "maybe" it would be great if we hear from a comcast representative. This is the message:
"Unable to connect to mail server. Possible reasons: The mail server is (temporarily) down or there are network connection problems. Please try again in a few minutes"
The minutes turned to hours and almost one day.
Come on Comcast people, be brave and give your customers some info.
Have you called Comcast Technical Support for direct support? This Community Forum isn't the best place for troubleshooting problems like that.
When I do a command prompt ping and traceroute to my outgoing mail server I get the following successes showing regional network routes:
Sad that not a comcast employee is the only one trying to explain what happened to the server.
I guess that not comcast employee should get paid for it!
Not a sermon, just a thought.
