new Gateway modem

I received the upgraded Gateway modem the other day. When the power was first plugged in all the lights would come on for a second. Then they all would go out. It would not power on at all. I tried it in several locations in my home all with the same result. I also noticed it did not come with a battery backup. I ended up sending it back in the return kit. Has anyone else had this problem? This is poor to be incovenienced like this and it is not the first time I have received faulty Comcast equipment.

Just chatted with Raymond at customer service. If I want a new modem I have to pay $15 for shipping and another $35 for the battery backup. Somehow they think it is fair to charge me to replace something that did not work, which they had sent to me for free. I cannot wait until my contract is up.
