When our internet was installed on 8/7/19, the technician put the modem on the mantle in the living room. It is an eyesore. Can we relocate the modem ourselves to our bedroom closet, where there is a cable box?

You could you just need a splitter. Remember though, tucking your modem and assuming your router in a closet will not be good for Wi-Fi performance
