Options for cancelling TV, and keeping Internet

Hello,

We want to cancel our cable TV service, but would like to keep our internet service. We would like any information on any internet specials available to us. We're going with a streaming TV service.

Thx

Re: Options for cancelling TV, and keeping Internet

I called Comcast at 800-266-2278 and was transferred from the first agent to a loyalty agent. Told him I wanted to drop my cable tv and keep the internet. He offered to lower the cable tv bill by not charging for the box for 12 months, basically lowering by $20. I told him we were going to stream our tv and that we’d already made up our minds on that issue. That we didn’t need the cable tv anymore as we usually watch fewer than a dozen channels.

I asked for any promos available for existing customers and he said that he could offer the Performance Pro (150mps) for $64.95 on the 12 month contract, which is the level we currently had. I asked what the next lower internet level was and if a promo was available as well. He told me that their Performance Plus (60mps) was available for $49.95 on the identical terms as the Pro level. We chose the Plus level, which we’re very satisfied with. Our Speedtest usually range above 70 mbp with a few devices going on simultaneously. Surprisingly fast....

It was an easy process to call Comcast and speak with their loyalty agent. He was very professional and a good listener.

Re: Options for cancelling TV, and keeping Internet

Lucky you I had a horrible experience today.. I have been a customer the last 10 months and had the x1 double play $170 a month.. I just got rid of the cable today because I just stream online anyhow when I went in to the Xfinity store and dropped the cable and internet only price is $94 a month for the 150mb service.. The retention specialist I spoke to over the phone this afternoon was even worse he tried upselling multiple service and ultimately said if I wanted internet only that my price would be $104 a month.. what's going on geese.. I love Xfinity internet service and really wanna keep it but won't for almost $10o a month! Any Xfinity reps can you review my scenario? Thanks

Re: Options for cancelling TV, and keeping Internet

I just got off the phone with Comcast about the same situation, cancelling cable and keeping internet. I've been a customer for over 6 years and they told me that I'd have to pay $90+ to keep my Performance Pro internet plan without cable. Not sure where the misalignment is, but shouldn't they be offering every customer the same pricing?

Hi @mwarsaw

Thank you for using the forums. We offer new customers an introductory rate for the first 6 months, 1 year, or 2 years depending upon the offer. After the introductory period offer expires, the price does go to what we call Everyday Price or regular rate.

I can review your account to see if I have any offers that best fit your needs. Can you please verify your first and last name in a private message, as well as the name of the account holder if it's different than yours?

ComcastChe..

When I click on your name there is no Send Message option anywhere.  How do I PM you?  I need to downgrade my service from TV/Internet to Internet-only.  Thanks.

Re: Options for cancelling TV, and keeping Internet

I contacted Comcast today and cancelled my services effective the end of the month.  I did this because again my plan was going up.  I have been a customer for 22 years with no cancellation of coverage.  I hate changing which is why I have never went to other sources.   After reading this, I decided I would just research other sources for tv, internet and home phone.  I keep getting offers from direct tv with as many channels as I currently get and internet services without equipment rental.  I guess customers who stay faithful is a thing of the past.  It appears that we must now move from provider to provider.  What a shame.

Re: Options for cancelling TV, and keeping Internet

I called comcast regarding the same situation, get rid of cable and the phone line and only keep internet. Also, we never use this phone line, we dont even have a house phone! But comcast made us get it 2 years ago because it was supposedly the only way to get a certain channel. Anyway, they made the only internet price $91 for 150mb service. When I look online, not logged into my account, comcast is offering 150mpbs for $54.99. This is ridiculous that comcast is trying to take an additional ~$430 per year from us as loyal customers. It makes me very upset that comcast takes advantage of customers like this.

Re: Options for cancelling TV, and keeping Internet

Hi @Evantton7, welcome to the forums. The prices you see online before logging into your account if for new customers only. It should say this in the "Pricing and Other Info" link right below the price. New customer pricing is offered as an introductory rate. I can review your account to see if I have any promotions for internet only. If interested, send me a private message with your first and last name and the name of the account holder if it's different than yours.

Hi @melody, I can't guarantee the same pricing that your son has, however, I'd be more than happy to see what packages I have available for 1GB internet. Can you alos send me a private message with your first and last name and the name of the account holder if it's different than yours?

Re: Options for cancelling TV, and keeping Internet

I’m looking for assistance as well. I saw an offer for $60 internet only under a cyber-Monday link, but it prompted me to call(likely because I have tv as well and want to discontinue it). The person I spoke with indicated internet only was going to be $100. I’d appreciate any help!

Re: Options for cancelling TV, and keeping Internet

I am in a similar situation.  Called the 800-number to inquire about lowering my bill and just keeping the internet service.  The agent I spoke to was focused on upselling additional services rather than providing any equitiable options.  May I get some assistance?  Would like to see what promotions are available to me.  Thank you.

Re: Options for cancelling TV, and keeping Internet

I would also like to switch to an internet only plan. I was told when switching to a bundled deal that it would be cheaper overall compared to my original internet only plan. Even after explaining that I didn't need the TV service and wouldn't use it, the rep said it would be fine since it would be cheaper anyway. But they never told me they would raise the "Broadcast TV" fees and now I'm paying more than I ever did then when I was just on internet only.  And they even sent me another modem which I didnt need because I still had the original one, then charged me an "Unused Equipment Fee" for it. So if possible, may I also switch to an internet only plan?

Re: Options for cancelling TV, and keeping Internet

I began messsging with two different people with Comcast and when I pointed out that a new customer is given a price 20 dollars cheaper then the one they offered me...I got ZERO response. That was on Saturday..today is now Monday and still not response. I am getting so fed up with Comcast at this point.

Re: Options for cancelling TV, and keeping Internet

I too want to switch to an internet only plan and see that the Comcast options are very confusing and varied. I was quoted that a internet only plan for 60 mbps would be $84.00/month (plus I guess the additional $11.00 fee for the modem). Searching as a non-customer I see promotions of $39.90 for a 60mbps plan and 100 mbps for $59.90. My opinion is that the rate descriptions are intentionally deceptive- they certainly are not consistant. I can understand the rates being different for different areas.. but why is a higher rate of speed available with a bundle package but not as a stand alone internet package?

You are looking at promotion prices for new customers. Also; using more than one service will get a discount on service over regular price for a single service. This is typical for all companies suppling service for: television, Internet, phone, e-mail, etc.

Never PM an Official Employee or Expert unless specifically requested.  Sending an unsolicited PM is a violation of Forum Guidelines and the Acceptable Use Policy.

When you send an unsolicited PM to an Official Employee requesting help or information you are keeping that OE from helping other customers that have responded to the OE's request and who have probably been waiting quite a while for help.  This is a public customer-to-customer forum and we ask that you post your problem in the open so that you can receive the maximum help possible as quickly as possible.  Your post will be answered by an OE in the order that it was received, which could be several days.  If you need help more quickly, consider using chat or @ComcastCares on Twitter, or on our Facebook page.

We thank you for your understanding.

I totally agree, I experienced the same with Verizon despite 22 years with them. I'm going the same route with Xfinity. What a shame.

Re: Options for cancelling TV, and keeping Internet

We have 1 month left on our commitment and are also looking into the idea of getting rid of cable.  We watch mostly local channels and a handful of cable channels only.  The family definitely needs internet for work and school.  Wife wants to keep the house phone though.  I was told by another Comcast rep that there were no such offers for this.  Any advice?  And I also heard prices were going up in January again.
Last month we used685GB of the 1024GB on our plan, so we should be ok (Ihope).
