Why haven’t Comcast customers been alerted about the news that 26million customers addresses and social security numbers were exposed by a a flaw in the Comcast login security? We at least deserve some type of an explanation or an update. Thank you. The original news story uncovering the flawwas posted yesterday on BuzzFeed.
There were vulnerabilities, but that does not equal a security breach. There is no evidence at all of anyone's information being compromised.
After BuzzFeed News reported the findings to Comcast, the company patched the flaws. Spokesperson David McGuire told BuzzFeed News, “We quickly investigated these issues and within hours we blocked both vulnerabilities, eliminating the ability to conduct the actions described by these researchers. We take our customers’ security very seriously, and we have no reason to believe these vulnerabilities were ever used against Comcast customers outside of the research described in this report.”
This is true.
However, if someone neglects to lock their safe, it doesn’t mean that the gold inside was not stolen. However it’s more likely that someone did steal the gold, especially given the large number of people that walked by this safe with it’s owner unaware that he forgot to lock it.
