Can service be disconnected and then reconnected by someone else?

I am moving out of state. Since I cannot go in to a store right now to transfer ownership of the account to my roommate, I was wondering if I could just discontinue service and then they could contact comcast and restart service at the same address? The equipment will remain here and is already working with comcast.

It would probably be best all around to just cancel the service and then let your roommate get service at new customer rates.  However, you will need to turn in your equipment so that they can get the equipment they need and that it will be removed from your account.
