So, it has been a while since this topic came up and it hasn't been explained clearly...


Comcast customers get these mysterious emails from Comcast to "confirm an offer" by going to an odd website at


So, what is up with this?  I received a new DVR box recently - not what any normal person familiar with English language would call an "offer".  Is this just poor use of English or poor application design?  Why is this process in place?  Is it something like an inventory-control kind of thing?


I've a lot of experience in information system design and I get curious about this kind of thing.
