Why doesn't my monthly bill automatically adjust when my 2 year contract is finished?

I am paying $280/month for triple-play service.  My 2-year contract terminated months ago and I have been paying month -to-month since then.  I have no desire to sign another contract, yet, I am being gouged based on an old contract.  Why hasn't my price at a minimum moved to the current month-to-month rate??
