Two year contract - 2nd year increase

I am in a two-year contract and struggling to make payments as is. Due to unforeseeable increases in my other monthly bills, the rate increase for the second year is going to be too much.  What are my options in cutting service in order to get my cable bill down? Will I be penalized if I switch to internet only?
