They changed my phone number and did not tell me!

I called on Monday, January 8th to modify the services on my account (remove Home Security and adjust my television package). I thought this would be a straightforward process. I find out yesterday that my home phone number was changed (without my knowledge), my call history and saved voicemails deleted, and my internet service has been intermittent. This is unacceptable and I do not know what calls we missed while my phone number was not active. I called home yesterday only to find out the number was not in service. Had I not called home, I would never have known my number had been changed.  I was not told this might happen and when I called customer service they stated that my number changed with my service change.  This did not make any sense.  Thankfully, my number has been restored, but again not sure what we missed and access to our home number is very important to us right now.
