I have had very similar experiences with Comcast.  They don't care about existing customers as long as your money keeps coming in.  If you actually do cancel, suddenly you mean a lot to them again.  If you go 3 months without Comcast they again consider you a "new customer" and they will jump through hoops to impress you and get you back onto autopay.
