Charged rent for a customer-owned modem

My wife purchased an Xfinity modem from a store. When the Xfinity tech came to install the service, he said the modem was a piece of junk and he couldn't get it to work, so he gave a replacement, and took the original modem with him. Now my wife got a letter saying there's been a mistake and she will be charged $10 / month rent for the modem. Doesn't she own the modem since it was a replacement for a modem that she owned? Or do we need to report the original modem stolen by the Xfinity tech?

Re: Charged rent for a customer-owned modem

Hi Jalve, apologies for your experiences. The modem that replaced your original one still belongs to Comcast, do you still have the receipt of the original modem you purchased?

Thank you
