Bill Jumped too high... Customer Service is no help

I have been a customer for a couple years now and never missed payments. I do not have HD or premium channels, there is only 1 cable box for my living room and I am paying $175 a month. I called customer service and there was nothing they could do to truely help me other than lower my payment $20 a month. Verizon is offering this same plan for lower than $100 (I believe it is around $70 a month) and the rep told me there was nothing more she could do and urged me to reach out to someone else. I am one who likes paper trails so this is my best option. Could someone help me? I really don't need to be spending this much money on basic cable (yes I do have internet and if you want to say i have a phone line then i do but we never use it)
